Women Rock Garden for ZPG's Turner/Fonda Family Planning Outreach Project

NEW YORK - January 26 - Influential women artists as diverse as Jewel, Janis Ian and Odetta brought a packed Madison Square Garden audience to their feet and, at times, to tears Monday night as they added their voices to a nationwide effort to empower women and make family planning more accessible.

The History of Women in Music Concert -- a benefit for Zero Population Growth's Turner/Fonda Family Planning Outreach Project -- brought together the stellar line-up of: Paula Cole, Judy Collins, Janis Ian, Jewel, Helen Reddy, Phoebe Snow, Odetta and newcomer Mandy Barnett.

The Turner/Fonda Project -- an important part of ZPG's program -- aims to improve access to family planning information and services. The project also aims to encourage young people to get involved in the population issues that directly affect their lives. All the artists donated their time and talent.

Zero Population Growth (ZPG) is America's premier non-profit environmental organization working to educate people about the impact of rapid population growth. ZPG believes that by tackling population growth, our nation can improve and sustain a better quality of life for everyone living here.

The idea of bringing together these legendary women in American music grew out of a ZPG dinner held in 1997 to honor the amazing work of Jane Fonda and Ted Turner.
