| Statement by Ralph Nader on Sen. Lauch Faircloth | ||||
| WASHINGTON -
October 27 - Following is a statement by Ralph Nader on Sen. Lauch Faircloth: Lauch Faircloth's Senate biography states that he "believes politicians in Washington need to live by the same principles as hard-working men and women..." Well he sure doesn't vote his beliefs. Faircloth consistently represents the interests of wealthy special interests and their Washington lobbyists, not the interests of average working people in North Carolina. He regularly votes to keep in place the corrupt, PAC-greased political system now controlled by the rich and corporate interests, which prevents our democracy from being returned to his constituents. While Faircloth wants corporate America to have free reign, he constantly votes to limit government authority to protect consumers from corporate abuses whether by polluters, the giant insurance industry, unsafe food manufacturers or the makers of defective products. For those actions he is considered one of the most anti-consumer senators in Congress. And Faircloth tops off his double standard by supporting corporate welfare and voting for huge subsidies and tax escapes for some of America's biggest companies. ------ If you want a senator who supports letting wealthy special interests buy their way in Washington at your expense, vote for Lauch Faircloth. If you want a senator who supports taking away your rights to hold corporations accountable for making unsafe food, harmful drugs, dangerously defective products and denying you health care, vote for Lauch Faircloth. If you want a senator who supports corporate giveaways, such as to giant mining companies who reap huge profits by paying next to nothing for the minerals they extract from federal land, vote for Lauch Faircloth. If you want a senator who helped the barons of Wall Street get Congress to take away your rights to hold them accountable when they defraud seniors and other investors, vote for Lauch Faircloth. If you want a senator who votes to hamstring the federal government from stopping environmental polluters while he himself is a huge corporate polluter, vote for Lauch Faircloth. ------ For more information contact Ralph Nader at 202-387-8034. -0- |
