| Patricia Ireland warns New York Voters: "Don't Be Fooled By Stealth Senator Al D'Amato - Vote For Chuck Schumer!" | ||||
| WASHINGTON -
October 21 - "Don't be fooled by stealth senator Al D'Amato. He is an enemy of
women's equality. The clear choice for women -- and all progressive voters -- in the New
York Senate race is Chuck Schumer," said NOW/PAC
Chair Patricia Ireland following the
announcement of the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC)
endorsement of D'Amato. "Once every six years, D'Amato dons a moderate mask to court voters. But New York voters beware! On issues like abortion rights and reproductive freedom, D'Amato votes with Jesse Helms every time -- 100%," Ireland warned. "Schumer is a congressional leader on feminist issues. He authored the hate crimes bill in the House and championed legislation on violence against women and access to abortion and reproductive health services. In fact, Schumer has a 100% voting record on HRC's own scorecard on the 105th Congress," Ireland concluded. NOW's PACs evaluate candidates on a number of feminist issues, including lesbian and gay civil rights. On Halloween, NOW PACs will unmask D'Amato and other stealth candidates across the country by educating voters on the candidates' records. "Our activists will be in the streets and knocking on doors to warn voters about the right-wing stealth candidates who are hiding their own records. If you want real change, then get out and vote for real feminists on November 3rd," Ireland said. ### |
