| Planned Parenthood Federation of America Releases New Sex Education Aid For Parents And Children; Congressional Investigation And The Starr Report Provide Perfect Opportunity For Parents To Discuss Sex And Sexuality With Their Kids | ||||
| NEW YORK - October
19 - Planned Parenthood, the leader in providing uncensored information on sexual health
and sexuality, today released an informative question-and-answer educational aid for use
by parents in discussing sexual issues with their children. "There has been a great
deal of media attention to The Starr Report since its release," said Gloria Feldt,
president, Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "One of the by-products of this
media attention is that children have been asking their parents about sexual issues, often
questions that parents feel unprepared to answer. We believe this easy-to-use
question-and-answer format will be of great help in assisting parents with these difficult
issues," said Feldt. A recent survey by Roper Starch Worldwide indicates that American parents rate sex as the topic they are least comfortable talking about with their children. "October is National Family Sexuality Education Month," said Feldt, "a perfect time for parents to start having these discussions with their children. When parents can begin a healthy dialogue with their kids about sex, they help their kids develop sound values and make responsible choices." The question-and-answer educational aid is available free to parents by either accessing our Web site at www.plannedparenthood.org/parents/qanda.html or by writing to Planned Parenthood, 810 7th Ave., New York, NY 10019, attention: Sex Ed Q & A In addition to the questions and answers, the Planned Parenthood Web site also features a sample workshop called Helping Families, designed to guide facilitators, counselors and teachers in leading workshops for parents on communication with their kids about sexuality and relationships. Planned Parenthood also offers parents the award-winning Talking About Sex animated video kit and guide. The kit offers examples of several families whose members discuss specific topics related to sexuality and growing up for kids 10-14. The kit may be ordered, for $29.95 plus shipping and handling, by calling 1-800-669-0156. ### |
