Garfield is professor of clinical international nursing at Columbia University. On Sunday, he received the international award from the Physicians Forum, an affiliate of the American Public Health Association, for his work on the effects of sanctions.

At the historic "town hall" meeting in Columbus, Ohio, last February, Jon Strange asked Secretary of State Albright about double standards. She publicly promised that she would explain U.S. policy to him for "50 minutes" -- but to this day has declined to do so.
