ADL Gravely Concerned Over House Vote to Deny Federal Housing Funds To San Francisco | ||
| NEW YORK - July 30 - The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed
"grave concern" over House action that would deny federal housing funds to
cities which require contractors to provide benefits to unmarried partners of employees.
The amendment to the federal housing appropriations bill would apply to the city of San
Francisco, the only city which has such a policy. Elizabeth Coleman, ADL civil rights director, today issued the following statement: "The denial of public funds to the city of San Francisco flies in the face of the right of citizens to enjoy the basic freedoms and benefits afforded by their community without discrimination." "We strongly oppose policies that single out any American based on prejudice and we will work to defeat this measure in the House-Senate conference." ------ The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry. -0- |
