Common Cause Statement on Defeat of Doolittle Amendment on Campaign Finance Reform | ||
| WASHINGTON - July 14 - Following is a statement by Common Cause
President Ann McBride today on the defeat of the Doolittle Amendment on Campaign Finance
Reform: Tonight's defeat of the Doolittle amendment builds the growing momentum for passage of real campaign finance reform. Tonight's defeat of the Doolittle amendment represents the third time that reform supporters have beaten back-killer amendments designed to derail the bipartisisan Shays-Meehan bill. All that now stands in the way of passage of real reform are the stall and delay tactics and the "filibuster by amendment" strategy being used by the House Republican leadership. Given the Republican leadership's repeated record of broken promises on campaign reform, House Speaker Gingrich and Majority Leader Armey must put forth a formal public agreement that guarantees a final vote on campaign finance reform before the August recess. -0- |
