New Report to Compare Major Sources of Power Plant Smog | ||
| WASHINGTON - July 14 - News Advisory: It's already shaping up to be one of the smoggiest summers in years, with smog reaching unhealthful levels hundreds of times in more than 30 states. Where's the pollution coming from? Much of it is produced by dirty electric power plants. Just how dirty and how "green" are particular companies? A new report will rate the emissions performance of America's 100 biggest electric generating companies, which collectively produce 90 percent of utility air pollution. The report, produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council and Public Service Electric and Gas Co., will be the subject of a briefing July 16 at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Included with the report is a CD-ROM which contains not only extensive information on each power company, but animated weather maps showing the location and movement of smog during summer months. ------ Who: David Hawkins, senior attorney, Natural Resources Defense Council; Henry A. Waxman; Frank Pallone Jr.; Eric Svenson, Public Service Electric and Gas Co. Where: The Capitol, Room HC8 Washington, D.C. When: Thursday, July 16, 10 a.m. ------ Editors and producers note: This story can be localized. The user-friendly CD-ROM may be particularly useful in comparing the environmental performance of various power companies in light of increasing competition for electricity sales. -0- |
