Actress Daryl Hannah and Estimated 100 Citizens to Risk Arrest At White House Oil Pipeline Protest on Tuesday

Over 500 Already Arrested in Two Week Protest; Monday’s Group Largest of Arrests To Date

WASHINGTON - August 30 - More than 100 committed citizens, including actress Daryl Hannah, are expecting arrest on Tuesday when they join the largest civil disobedience on climate change in US history. At issue is the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, now the top environmental decision on President Obama’s desk before the 2012 election.

VISUALS: More than 100 people arrested in front of the White House carrying colorful signs and banners. Many will be wearing their Obama ’08 buttons.

Where: Lafayette Park, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

When: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

More information: At issue is the Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry tar sands oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. President Obama alone will decide if the pipeline will be built. The tar sands represent the second largest pool of carbon on the planet and there is no guarantee that oil will even be used in the US.
