Name Elizabeth Warren to Consumer Post
WASHINGTON - August 13 - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today pressed for President Obama to name consumer advocate and Harvard Professor Elizabeth Warren to head a new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created by the new Wall Street reform law.
“Elizabeth has played a great role in standing up to Wall Street. Given that the outrageous greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street caused the horrendous recession that we are still suffering through, it is absolutely necessary that we have a strong, smart consumer advocate who will look out for their needs as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,” Sanders said.
“Maybe the biggest reason to support her is that the big banks are pulling out all the stops to block her nomination. They are afraid of having someone looking over their shoulder who knows the ways they rip off consumers and will make them stop it,” Sanders added.
Sanders took note of concerns voiced by some about whether Warren could win Senate confirmation. “She has a very good chance to be confirmed, but it is a fight worth having. This is a debate that has to happen.”

Show AllIf Sanders is for her...so am I.
Elizabeth Warren is eminently qualified to look after the people's consumer rights.
By all means possible, Yes, put Elizabeth Warren in as the Consumer Advocate in the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She was ignored before when she tried to stop the corruption, and she was right; let's not make that same mistake again. It is right that Elizabeth Warren be named as the leader of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Name Elizabeth Warren to Consumer Post-All for it, but...
I think that she would make A much more effective PRESIDENT....
Agree !!!
Thumb sucking, slurp, pop. "Mom'll fix em!" Thumb sucking.
Obama is paying a price for sticking with the guys (thugs) who helped him win the presidency. That's a mistake. He should take the opportunity to purge a lot of these turf protectors and use the next two years to do good things for ordinary Americans. A new deal kind of program is urgently needed to to counter the balance of runaway corporate power. They have to learn that you can't buy a president. Elizabeth Warren, a real natural for the position, can be a first step and Chris Dodd should be told to go to hell.
Please...it is time to stop hoping that President Obama will be anything other than what he is... a neo-liberal (the neo-con version for Democrats). It is a mistake to continue to believe that "poor President Obama" has been taken over by nasty corporate powers. No. President Obama has spent the last 18 months showing all of us where his beliefs and allegiances lie...that would be with neo-liberal and corporate interests first. Look at the people HE CHOSE for his cabinet, look at how he caters to the military industrial complex with greater funding and escalation of wars, look at "health care reform" in which single payer advocates were never allowed at the table, look at the continued assault on privacy rights, etc., etc. This is nothing most here do not know. I realize it is hard for some to face the reality that they made a mistake in backing this President, but "better late than never".
Quite honestly, I am watching the Administration very carefully at this point. If they cave and do not appoint Elizabeth Warren to chair this new agency, I will know that my growing fears about just who we elected will be confirmed.
I never liked or understood the appointment of Geithner or Summers. They truly are the proverbial foxes guarding the henhouse. And I do not care what excuse the Administration may manufacture to justify a decision not to appoint Elizabeth Warren: it will be subterfuge or cowardice or a bit of both. Or maybe, just maybe, it will be irrefutable evidence that there really and truly is no discernible difference between Republican and Democrat.
I feel we've been steamrolled on so many issues, from failing to give single-payer advocates even a seat at the negotiation table, to the stunning watering down of each and every bill that has had any potential to truly change the way things are done in this country. If Warren is not nominated and backed with the full force and authority of the presidency, I promise: I will not vote for either of the two parties ever again. It will be 3rd party all the way for me from hereon out.
Voting is such sweet sorrow.
