Kucinich Recognizes Tragic Milestone in War in Afghanistan

“We must not become complacent”

WASHINGTON - July 30 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today responded to news reports that the death of 63 troops makes July the deadliest month in the war in Afghanistan:

“The House recently authorized another $37 billion for war, bringing the total cost of war since 2001 to more than $1 trillion. After nearly a decade at war, we have become almost numb to the tragedy that unfolds each and every day in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Today, we witness another tragic milestone as July has become the deadliest month for American troops in Afghanistan. It is important to remember the lives of the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to their country. We must also acknowledge the innocent Afghan civilians who have been caught in a struggle in which they have no part. On this somber occasion, I renew my commitment to leading efforts in the House of Representatives to cut off funding for these wars and bring our troops home safely,” said Kucinich.
