Kucinich Recognizes Tragic Milestone in War in Afghanistan
“We must not become complacent”
WASHINGTON - July 30 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today responded to news reports that the death of 63 troops makes July the deadliest month in the war in Afghanistan:
“The
House recently authorized another $37 billion for war, bringing the
total cost of war since 2001 to more than $1 trillion. After nearly a
decade at war, we have become almost numb to the tragedy that unfolds
each and every day in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“Today,
we witness another tragic milestone as July has become the deadliest
month for American troops in Afghanistan. It is important to remember
the lives of the brave men and women who have given their lives in
service to their country. We must also acknowledge the innocent Afghan
civilians who have been caught in a struggle in which they have no part.
On this somber occasion, I renew my commitment to leading efforts in
the House of Representatives to cut off funding for these wars and bring
our troops home safely,” said Kucinich.

Show AllKucinich for President....in2012. We need--and deserve--a GENUINE progressive in the White House....not just a warmed-over Republican like we have now. It's time for real Change; and Dennis Kucinich is one of the few with the Courage, Integrity, and Perspicacity to do the job.
Undoubtedly, it will require a 3rd-Party campaign, given the paucity of the aforementioned qualities among the current crop of "Democrats". Run, Dennis, Run!! If not now, when...if not you, who?!!!!!!!
The ONLY conceivable reason that Obama insists on keeping American troops in that unfortunate country is to convince the knuckle-draggers on the right that he is just as "tough on terrorism" as the Republicans.
Who will be the last American soldier to die in Afghanistan? The politicians who want the occupation to continue are just as cynical and unethical as those who continued--and expanded!--the American misadventure in Vietnam....even after recognizing that the war was unwinnable. They considered their own political fortunes to be more important than the lives of American troops....and Vietnamese civilians.
