Kucinich: We Are Losing Our Nation to Lies About the Necessity of War
WASHINGTON - June 28 - Congressman Dennis
Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement on the floor of the
House concerning an expected vote on a $33 billion supplemental war
funding bill:
"In a little more than a year the United States
flew $12 billion in cash to Iraq, much of it in $100 bills, shrink
wrapped and loaded onto pallets. Vanity Fair reported in 2004 that ‘at
least $9 billion' of the cash had ‘gone missing, unaccounted for.' $9
billion.
"Today, we learned that suitcases of $3 billion in
cash have openly moved through the Kabul airport. One U.S. official
quoted by the Wall Street Journal said, ‘A lot of this looks like our
tax dollars being stolen.' $3 billion. Consider this as the American
people sweat out an extension of unemployment benefits.
"Last week, the BBC reported that "the US military
has been giving tens of millions of dollars to Afghan security firms
who are funneling the money to warlords." Add to that a corrupt Afghan
government underwritten by the lives of our troops.
"And now reports indicate that Congress is
preparing to attach $10 billion in state education funding to a $33
billion spending bill to keep the war going.
"Back home millions of Americans are out of work,
losing their homes, losing their savings, their pensions, and their
retirement security. We are losing our nation to lies about the
necessity of war.
"Bring our troops home. End the war. Secure our
economy."

Show AllI don't disagree, but would like to add that it goes beyond the necessity for war. It goes beyond the necessity for oil, bailing out Wall Street, etc. It's the grip of corporate interests over common interests of the citizens. That grip's got hold of our government, has bought those we've elected, and is calling the shots. Tell me, what I don't already know. Give me some kind of action to take that would change this. I would so much like an answer that would lend a bit of optimism to our future, instead of hearing another parakeet's warning from in the mine.
excellent post, onevoice, agreed.
Yes, the NRA doesn't care who buys weapons, who the buyer gives the weapons to, or who ultimately is injured or killed by weapons...the goal of the NRA is to maximize sales of weapons. Eternal occupations and wars with unlimited budgets are the NRA's dream.
What the hell does the NRA have to do with this article?
I've always admired the way Dennis Kucinich thinks.....and it doesn't appear that he is beholden to anyone, so he can say what he thinks.
he can say what he thinks but still votes the party line.
Hmm...how does this go now? Dennis wants a jump in campaign contributions so he gives a progressive speech; I'll Bombya Too and the Deomocratic party wants a bill passed, so Barack meets up with Kucinich in private room on the fundraising trail(especially sexy if it's on Air Force One), Barack nibbles Dennis' ear. When the time to vote for more torturous death for humans spending comes up Dennis says, "Oh my gosh, I'm so in love...O O O O O...O O O O O...O I've just got to vote with this administration because it's so important for I'll Bombya Too to 'succed.'"...bombs drop, mothers ungodly screams sound as they're handed still born uranium deformed baby corpses...the summer re-run season goes into full swing...Kucinich and Big Daddy Congress rock America back to sleep...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Kucinich is living in another world. He convined me when he
took that plane ride with Obomber.
Agree. When Kucinich voted for the corporate giveaway health insurance reform, he said he voted for it to support Obama, not because he supported the bill. So now Kucinich makes speeches condemning the policies of Obama, but doesn't mention Obama. It's all hot air unless he makes it personal, rather than general rants that the only people that listen to him are his remaining followers.
Freddie Kilowatt and Progressive 101, have you written him, and let him know that there are people out here who feel that way? Get under his skin and stay there, make him do what we want, not what the Obummer wants! If guys like Kuncinich don't hear from us, they will do what the people they do hear from want! Hint: that's going to be the lobbyists!
A not-so-small suggestion; Start learning to control your own food (raise it and grow it yourself) and water... Things are going to get rough before they get better.
The necessity to go to war is how some wealthy see as Global Control, and most are wealthy republicans. Did you ever read the book,--Family of Secrets?----
The family that wishes,- one world, one leader!-- and the Tea Party is out to help make it happen in 2012. Obama is just another puppet.
Amen, brother Kucinich! Hang in there, eventually masses will begin to hear you loudly and clearly - - let's hope it happens while we still have a chance to get out of this meaningless morass.
Hey Dennis
Say all you want to say, very few will be duped by your lip services. Not again, after your vote for the health care Not bill vote that is even worse than what we have now. Sc.rew u
also Freddie Kilowatt and Puck...Twain:
Kucinich got played by Obama once...that one time.
I am deeply disappointed in Elizabeth for letting it happen...I trust she has cut him off until he sees the light and repents.
But it was ONCE! And now you attribute the lowest motivation to his every move. How does it feel to live lives of such pristine perfection?
Progressive101: Good point. He really should do the mea culpa and go after Obama by name.
The real war that's going on is the war wealthy elites are waging against ALL of us on this planet. It's do or die for the solidarity movement. Our only chance at a better world is for us to stick together with people around the world like super glue. It's going to require a deep sense of determination. They have the massive weapons and the major media conglomerates. We have the majority of the world's population and righteousness on our side. We must prevail. Their greatest weakness is their over-confidence. It should be exploited at every opportunity by what ever means are available. Humanity is at stake.
I love Dennis and what he stands for. However, he's slightly behind on this one. I think our nation was lost long, long, long ago back on the Plymouth Rock to exact.
