Kucinich Continues Fight to Restore State Single Payer Amendment
WASHINGTON - November 3 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement about the House health care plan on the floor of the House of Representatives:
“Even
though insurance companies make money not providing health care, the
so-called reform bill gives so much power and money to the insurance
companies that we are giving far too much for the few benefits which
the bill may confer.
“The insurance companies get at least another 26 million customers.
“They will receive at least an extra $50 billion in new revenue.
“They
will be able to raise premiums 25%, even though in each of the last
four consecutive years the industry has raised premiums by double
digits.
“As
long as there are for-profit health insurance companies, there will be
no effective way to protect consumers against ever escalating premiums,
co pays and deductibles, unless the insurance companies know that
people at a state level will always have a choice to reject the
insurance companies and establish a single-payer not-for-profit system.
“That
is why the Kucinich Amendment must be put back in the health care bill,
not just to protect the rights of states to pursue single payer, but to
protect the rights of consumers to be free of the economic death grip
of the insurance companies.”

Show AllThere is a way to get the Kucinich Amendment restored into the House healthcare bill. Democratic leaders can reinsert it through what is called a "Manager's Amendment". Every one reading this please call the following persons. They are the ones who can make a difference as to whether we get real reform or if the insurance industry gets a bonanza. Call and ask them to restore the Kucinich Amendment using Manager's Amendment
Speaker Nancy Peloi: 1-202-225-4965
Majority Leader Steny Hoyer: 1-202-225-4131
Rep. Henry Waxman: 1=202-225-3976
Rep. Charles Rangel: 1-202-225-4365
Rep. Geroge Miller: 1-202-225-2095
As Thom Hartmann says,
"Democracy begins with you...get active"
I agree BUT what are the chances that amendment will be brought to the floor and passed given all the meetings behind closed door have managed to produce?
My message to Americans who lump all Representatives together as being members of a do nothing Congress :" you need to stop whining and pay attention to the demonized Progressives". Dennis Kucinich is the hardest working Representative I have ever seen in Congress and all the media do is ridicule him. He should have been President. This pandering to the private Health Insurance industry will not help America get affordable health insurance to the lower middle class working people. This section type health insurance is strange. Public Insurance for the elderly, some children, the very poor, the veterans, and the disabled with private profit companies mixed in to make health care even more fractional, complex, inefficient and expensive. A Single-payer health Care System is necessary for the survival of many Americans and a cost efficient plan that will not add to the deficit.
