Planned Parenthood and National Women's Law Center Applaud Governors for Urging Expansion of Medicaid Family Planning State Option in Health Care Reform
Governors Cite Positive Impact of Family Planning on Women’s Health
WASHINGTON - July 22 - Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the National Women's Law Center (NWLC) today applauded 16 governors for submitting a letter to congressional leaders urging them to support the inclusion of the Medicaid Family Planning State Option in health care reform. This critical provision provides basic preventive health care, including breast and cervical cancer screenings and contraception, to millions of women and is currently in President Obama's fiscal year 2010 budget.
"We applaud Governor Ted Strickland for championing this letter and the governors who joined him in expressing support for the Medicaid Family Planning State Option," said Cecile Richards, PPFA president. "We know firsthand the lifesaving care these programs provide to women and families across the country. And governors recognize that ensuring the expansion of Medicaid family planning is vital to any comprehensive health care reform effort."
"Especially during these difficult economic times, far too many families are forced to sacrifice health care to help make ends meet," said Marcia D. Greenberger, co-president of NWLC. "As the governors recognize, foregoing basic health care can have serious health and economic consequences for women and their families. This provision will make essential family planning and basic health care services more accessible and affordable to millions of women."
Governor Strickland (D-OH) championed the sign-on letter and was joined by Governors Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Chet Culver (D-IA), John deJongh (D-Virgin Islands), Jim Doyle (D-WI), Jennifer Granholm (D-MI), Christine Gregoire (D-WA), Timothy Kaine (D-VA), Theodore Kulongoski (D-OR), Martin O'Malley (D-MD), Jack Markell (D-DE), David Paterson (D-NY), Beverly Perdue (D-NC), Pat Quinn (D-IL), Bill Richardson (D-NM) and Bill Ritter, Jr. (D-CO).
Currently, 27 states have sought and received federal waivers to expand eligibility for family planning services. States have repeatedly demonstrated that expanding health care coverage for women in this way also results in significant cost savings. Expanding the Medicaid Family Planning State Option would allow states to expand Medicaid coverage for family planning services, without a waiver, to those who don't otherwise qualify for full Medicaid benefits. These cost savings could help states avoid additional cuts to critical health programs and allow them to use the savings for other pressing needs.
The Medicaid Family Planning State Option will also save federal funds. The Congressional Budget Office determined that the Medicaid Family Planning State Option saves the federal government $200 million over five years and $700 million over 10 years.
Voters strongly support efforts to make contraception more accessible and affordable as part of a comprehensive approach to reproductive health issues. According to public opinion research conducted in 2007 by Hart Research on behalf of the NWLC and PPFA, an overwhelming majority (73 percent) strongly favor making it easier for women at all income levels to obtain contraceptives.
"The Medicaid Family Planning State Option is a proven approach to expanding coverage for basic women's health care, while at the same time generating significant cost savings for states and the federal government," said Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. "In states like Ohio, this new option will improve women's access to quality, affordable preventive health care, such as breast and cervical cancer screenings."
PPFA and the NWLC join these state governors in urging Congress to take swift action to pass this commonsense measure as part of health care reform legislation.
Planned Parenthood is working to ensure that women's health is a priority in health care reform and that any reform effort includes two important pieces: access to comprehensive reproductive health care and access to essential community providers within the network. This will ensure that basic preventive care, such as contraception, Pap tests, and other cancer screenings, are covered and that women are able to continue to access trusted health care providers in the communities where they live.
NWLC's project, Reform Matters: Making Real Progress for Women and Health Care started in early 2008, empowers women to be vocal advocates in the fight for progressive health care reform. As an active member of several leading progressive health care coalitions, including Health Care for America Now! (HCAN) and the Herndon Alliance, NWLC brings a unique perspective to the table by advocating for the specific needs of women.

see you there.
We of " The Tribe" and " Citizen Central" wish to thank (thank you doesn't do it!!!!!!), all of you from Planned Parenthood who for over fifty years,at times risked your lives, to provide safe and secure health services for women here and around the world.
In the eighties I stood with you as we defended the doors of Planned Parenthood against terry randell and operation rescue
in Brookline, Mass.
I witnessed the assaults, the threats, the hatred directed against the staff.People today don't realize all the pain, dedication, fights, setbacks, determination that Organizations like Planned Parenthood went through to establish women's rights and health services fifty years ago.
And that, you all have done it for fifty years and are still doing it. Again may we, the woman and men of the world salute you and your kindred spirits.
We at Citizen Central would consider it an honor to have your presence at the policy table for Universal Health services in our country.
As well as being at just about every other table.
Methods of providing women's health-care and family planning services in countries around the world.
Considering world population in terms of environmental, societal, religious consequences.
In giving social health-care and reproductive services to our citizens, what, if any are their responsibilities to society.
We at Citizen Central are still a "gleam in Daddies eyes"
pun intended. Its up to us,Planned Parenthood and your associated organizations and the rest of us to build it.
Citizen Central can be up and running between two months and a year. Or it can just fade away.

This concludes our post in reference to this article .To follow this thread start with the article mentioned above.
Do you think there will be any fraud associated with the 800,000,000 bailout money????
Right now there is no incentive not to commit fraud.
For example GOLDMAN SACHS defrauded its customers three billion dollars, they paid a fine of two hundred million dollars, while not pleading guilty or innocent.Give me this deal everyday!!!!!!!!!!
So we need an incentive not to commit fraud.
The second change to existing law we want enacted is the one that applies to ben bernanke and the federal reserve.
We want this law changed so that congress and its citizens
can do whatever it wants to do with the federal reserve.
For starters we want to know where and to whom and for what reason seven trillion dollars in reserve monetary commitment was distributed. As of today not the president, nor one single member of congress or the senate has the faintest idea where that money went.WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??????????
And yet members of congress and the senate have the audacity
to say that Universal Health costs projected at one trillion over ten years in a budget buster.
If it was tar and feather days the congress and the senate would look like the chickens they are.Meanwhile universal Health care One trillion dollars over ten years, whose benefits will save the health-care system trillion of dollars because of prevention, contrast that with seven trillion in less than a year, gone , never coming back. our kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, will be paying for the greatest swindle of all time.
Well not if we have anything to do with it we want our money back. Okay sorry for rehashing things we already know.I getting tired and when i don't heed those signs I wind up posting things, that i read the next day , and wonder where did my slight sanity go.
I want to close with this.....The Tribe and current members of Citizen Central chose, for economy, this vehicle, me ,to speak for them. maybe its because I'm the chief (Indian name BIG WIND)of the Retards Tribe and according to Indian folklore crazy people were respected. Who knows,in any event if I was not reflecting their views they would be jumping all over my posts.
But as Citizen Central grows the collective may want a different voice to ,for economy, translate their desires, and
co-ordinate the collective direction we travel.
When that day comes i will welcome it.
Check back here tomorrow for the continuation.
We will be finished with the collective valves and philosophy
of the current Citizen Central tomorrow , then into the actual design where, by inspired chaos we can create the actual structure
