TORONTO - May 26 - Geraldine Cahill played a recent commercial by Conservatives for Patients' Rights (CPR) for some Torontonians May 23rd and asked for their opinions on the commercial's depiction of the Canadian health care system.

The commercial cautions Americans about the dangers of a government-run health care by portraying stories of Canadians mistreated within their health system.

"I think it's totally shocking," Sylvain Meyrous said, after viewing the commercial. "It doesn't reflect reality, I think. From what I gather, most Canadians are very happy with their health care system. As a new Canadian myself, I am very satisfied with the system." Meyrous lived and worked in the United States until a back injury forced him to go back to France after frustrated struggles with American insurance companies.

Shannon McManus said that though she has consistent medical attention for an autoimmune disease, she has had her choice of specialists for no expense on her part. "I hear horror stories about what they face down there," McManus said, referring to American relatives. "Even though they are middle-class, they have good incomes, they tell me they don't have anywhere near the choice I have for the medical care I've been getting."
