CONTACT: Congressman Dennis Kucinich |
'Get Out of Iraq. Get Out Afghanistan. Come Home America.'
WASHINGTON - May 14 - Speaking on a Supplemental Appropriations bill that would continue to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement:
"America went to war against Iraq based on a lie. We were told back in 2002 that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. The previous administration even pursued torture to try to extract false confessions in order to justify the war. It is time to tell the truth. The truth is we should not have prosecuted a war against the Iraqi people. The truth is the Democratic Senate could have stopped the Iraq war in 2002. The truth is we Democrats were given control of Congress in 2006 to end the war. The truth is this bill continues a disastrous war, which has cost the lives of thousands of our soldiers. The truth is the occupation has fueled the insurgency. The truth is the Iraq war will cost the American and the Iraqi people trillions of dollars and as many as a million innocent Iraqis have lost their lives as a result of this war.
"Don't tell the American people that you are ending the war by continuing to fund the war. Don't tell the American people that the war will end when their plans leave 50, 000 troops in Iraq. Don't tell the American people that the way out of Afghanistan is to escalate our presence.
"Get out of Iraq. Get out Afghanistan. Come home America."

Show AllPoor old Yakpsyche. He or she is bu,t another one of those poor deluded Americans who instead of taking the high moral, ethical, principled road instead tdakes the pragmatic low road of the so-called realists. They use such bullshit words as 'practicalities of office'. They focus more on the 'real politiks' of getting 're-elected'. They contend that to stand up for one's principles will only ead to one's 'assassination';, as if that is a bad way to die for what one truly believes in. To them, glacially-slow change is more acceptable to some faster, more 'radical' change. They ignore whatever negative effects such glacially slow change may have on peoples lives in the meantime. They refer to those who do as 'extremists'. They refuse to accept that were Obama ever to stand up and take a principled stand against: escalating the illegal occupation and war against Afghanistan and, now, Pakistan; to truly end the illegal war and occupation of the Iraqi people; to refuse to no longer politically, economically and militarily support a racist, apartheid state like Isreal; to call a halt to the fradulent absconding of U.S. Treasury monies by Wall Street banksters; to advocate for the prosecution of all Bush administration officials guily of torture; to openly support a single payer health care plan and declare that all the trillions yet to spent on illegal wars and occupations, all the foreign aid given to Isreal and other racist, apartheid states, all the monies of the bailout will be given to establishing a single payer health plan and social security system that gives all Americans the dignity of a quality life.
Enough said. Yakpsyche, please wake up!
yakpsyche: I couldn't have said it better myself! The 24-hour news cycle pundits combined with the knee-jerk reactions from the blogosphere make it nearly impossible for the President to formulate any meaningful policies for the future. President Obama seems to have the uncanny ability to see the big picture and remain calm while all around him seem to be overreacting to each news cycle. A war criminal and capitalist stooge? Hardly! Although I agree with Dennis Kucinich's comments, I am willing to trust Obama's judgment for now. Patience is a virtue we Americans need to embrace. The horror of the Bush/Cheney years cannot be undone overnight!
Lifelongdem states that "I am willing to trust Obama's judgment for now" and believes that "patience is a virtue we Americans need to embrace." I seriously doubt if the families of those 150 some-odd Afghans who were recently ripped apart by 500 lb. American bombs will trust Obama's judgment and have patience that Obama is doing the right thing by unjustly slaughtering Afghans as well as Pakistanis. I suspect that they also believe that the horrors that Obama has inflicted upon them will only be relieved when America's military has been finally removed from their soil and Obama stands beside Bush to answer charges that he has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Bring the troops home-ALL of them-now.
Kucinich - drop out of the @#&! Democratic Party and run as an independent. All the party will ever do for you is knee-cap you, even if you got elected President.
Get real. We didn't elect the wrong president. Can you imagine what it would be like now if Mc Cain were in office?
Now imagine you're Obama. You're the new leader of the most powerful country on the planet, run, it turns out, by the military and the capitalist uber-wealthy that profit from war. You've got to find a way to change the direction of things, but you have to be crafty. If you just say, get out of here and get out of there, basically, cut back the military to stand-by status and care for veterans only, what are your chances of succeeding, of not getting assasinated, of getting re-elected, and of being able to pass any other meaningful legislation that will help the country in other ways? Zip. Zero. Nada.
So, you do real-politik and work with what we have, slowly changing the course of events, taking care of important social changes first, so gradually the support will be built that enables reduction of military force.
Its slower, its less popular with extremists, it vulnerable to lots of misunderstanding and reversals, but it does have a realistic chance to eventually succeed.
Remember this.
Dennis Kucinich , even though you had dropped out of the race your name was still on the ballot and you are the only one I trusted so I voted for you, my hero.
Not one more dollar for endless wars that kill mostly civilians, since the troops cannot identify or separate friend from foe.
.
We the American people elect the wrong people President.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich has been right on all of the major issues for the last 20 years.
He is consistently right that the United States should IMMEDIATELY bring all of our troops home from the Middle East.
The United States' illegal military presence in the Middle East is the problem. This is a wrong war and a wrong time.
Bring our troops home.
On the Economic and Domestic crisis here at home, the President and the people should look at Rep. Kucinich clearly outlined solutions and programs....
,
The truth is the invasion is a War Crime. You're a great guy Dennis, but say it out loud, say it on the floor: "War Crime"
Obama was obviously a capitalist stooge. Well, a lot of you voted for him. You should have listened. Kucinich was the guy.
"OBAMA" the war criminal was elected by the people to do exactly this and return the rule of law. He proved to be a liar and a "COWARD". The American people were misled because he was "BLACK", there is however this chap he seems to embody what is needed, integrity, and honour. To get him into a position of power will take a revolution or an assassination either way is a very traditional American method of operation. Lets do it!!!!
