Afghans Opposed to Escalation; Robert Greenwald Returns From Kabul With Exclusive Footage

LOS ANGELES - March 27 - Following the President's announcement of a comprehensive review of U.S. policy in Afghanistan and Pakistan, film director Robert Greenwald returns to the U.S. tomorrow from a week in Kabul where he collected original footage and interviews for a new feature-length documentary on the conflict.

"I just came back from Kabul and found that in Afghanistan, troop escalation is on the top of nobody's wish list," said Greenwald. "Having seen the devastation of the conflict up close and having talked directly to numerous Afghans, I can say that a policy involving a surge of 21,000 teachers, doctors and sanitation workers would be far wiser than a policy of 21,000 more troops."

The footage Greenwald collected in Afghanistan includes hours of exclusive material, including interviews with Afghan politicians, peace activists, former Taliban fighters and negotiators. Greenwald's production company, Brave New Foundation, will immediately begin cutting and editing the new material for the online release of the next chapter of 'Rethink Afghanistan.' The film is being released in five installments online.
