ACS Hosts Post-Election Call On Voting Issues

Experts To Explore What Right and Wrong On Election Day

WASHINGTON - October 31 -

WHAT:
The American Constitution Society will host a conference call of national voting rights and election law experts to explore Election Day issues relating to voter access, participation, suppression and other legal conflicts over voting that developed. Even before Election Day, there have been media reports of early voting glitches, eligible voters improperly purged from the rolls, partisan efforts to suppress voter turnout and broad fear of larger problems. Join ACS on Nov. 6 to hear from a group of experts on how this year's vote went and to discuss continuing issues.

WHO:

Allison Hayward, professor of law at George Mason University School of Law and former Chief of Staff and Counsel in the office of Federal Election Commissioner Bradley A. Smith (2000 - 2006).
Pamela S. Karlan, professor of law at Stanford Law School and one of the nation's leading experts on voting, Karlan has served on the California Fair Political Practices Commission.
Paul M. Smith, partner, Jenner & Block and Chair of the ACS Board of Directors has argued thirteen cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and represented the Indiana Democratic Party in challenging the Indiana voter identification law.
Daniel P. Tokaji, professor of law at Ohio State University and associate director of OSU's election law project. Tokaji filed an amicus brief, with other attorneys, in Ohio Republican Party v. Brunner, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to vacate a federal court decision ordering the Ohio Secretary of State to take actions that would have purged thousands of voters from the rolls.
