Arizona Divorces John McCain!
Citizens cite irreconcilable differences on Iraq war, domestic policy
PHOENIX - October 29 - Liz Hourican, the Phoenix woman who disrupted Sen. John McCain's speech at the Republican National Convention two months ago and made headlines worldwide, will join other Arizonans here to divorce him from their state!
At 11 a.m. Nov. 1, only three days before the national presidential election, Hourican and others will deliver divorce papers to McCain's Phoenix office and act out a skit of formal divorce proceedings between McCain and Arizona to let the rest of the country know the state does not want to be tied to McCain's failed policies and platform supporting endless war in Iraq. (Lisa Blank, coordinator of CODEPINK Phoenix, will play "Arizona" in the skit). The separation has already begun -- polls show he's in danger of losing to opponent Sen. Barack Obama.
"The majority of Americans and Arizonans said they do not want a permanent occupation of Iraq, " Hourican said. "Communication is important in a marriage and he hasn't listened to us in all this time. As his home state, we find it important to stand up and complete the divorce."
Representatives from a number of groups on various issues from environment to indigenous rights will also speak: Hari Nam Khalsa of Iraq Veterans Against the War, Tim Carpenter of Progressive Democrats for America, Steve Brittle of Don't Waste America and others. The Tucson Raging Grannies will perform satires of McCain's policies before the "divorce."
"The grounds for the divorce are clear," said Mitch Rubin, a Phoenix attorney and a leader in the End The War Coalition, "beginning with McCain's continuing support of George Bush's disastrous foreign policy of war and aggression and a domestic policy that rewards the very rich at the expense of the middle and working class and the poor."
For more information, please call Hourican, CODEPINK DC coordinator, at 202-903-3363 or Janet Weil, CODEPINK coordinator, at 925-212-7477.

Show AllI want to be the first from Commondeams to congratualate CodePink on a job well done!
Yesterday, I read a newspaper article about Washington County Alabama. It was reported that the majority of the counties bridges are very un-safe and in need of repair. The county, however, has no money to repair them. The State of Alabama is also pretty broke too. In addition, the Mobile County School System has had to borrow money from a private citizen to pay its employees. Meanwhile, McCain wants to keep spending $60 Billion a month on a completely idiotic and un-necessary war.
I will pray the divorce is GRANTED and that McCain is ordered to make support payments to the State of Arizona!
Go CODEPINK!!
What a joke.
At least someone is saying things are wrong.....At least a group is organized to say the U.S Government is wrong........
Recently, U.S. helicopters went into Syria and murdered several unarmed civilians. Nobody in the United States said, "This is wrong, Americans don´t murder people because they are a different religion or have a different color skin. Or, do we?"
The premise for the attack was to kill a Militant Iraqi.....What? Who invaded Iraq based on fabricated information? Who occupies Iraq with an Army that is immunized from any crime committed against the people of Iraq, including murder?
Doesn´t the Iraqi Militant have the right to defend his country against an illegal and immoral invasion and occupation?
"Code Pink" is saying enough is enough and they, like "Iraq Veterans Against the War" are marginalized by the National Media as was Cindy Sheehan and the Tillmon Family.
The truth is we taxpayers have paid for the killing of over 1.2 million Iraqis with money and the lives of over 4,000 American Soldiers.....When do we, the American People, stand up and say, "We are not murderers and the soldiers should be brought home now!!!!!
