Voter Registration Efforts Gear Up

WASHINGTON

ADELAIDE KIMBALL

Kimball is a senior advisor to Vote Smart.
She said today: "Time for voter registration is dwindling in most
states, except those few which have same-day registration, so it's
important that voters register and arm themselves with information.
Voters may contact our hotline, 1-888-VOTE-SMART (1-888-868-3762), or
refer to our website for
crucial information. Our website includes state by state information
and online links for registering to vote. ... Vote Smart also provides
voting records, issue positions, ratings, campaign finance data, public
statements, backgrounds and contact information for every presidential,
congressional, gubernatorial and state legislative candidate and
incumbent in the country."

MARIA TERESA PETERSEN
Petersen is the executive director of Voto Latino.
She said today: "In keeping with our mission to engage and empower the
future generation of Latinos in this country, Voto Latino has teamed up
with various media/content companies to get the importance of voting
across to 18-29 year-olds. We have an active online presence at www.votolatino.org,
where people can register online and express their opinions. We also
have ground presence in key states with a notable Latino electorate. We
have reached over 55 million households through relevant media and
entertainment and helped drive the conversation about the Latino vote
in the mainstream media."

A nationwide consortium, the Institute for Public Accuracy (IPA) represents an unprecedented effort to bring other voices to the mass-media table often dominated by a few major think tanks. IPA works to broaden public discourse in mainstream media, while building communication with alternative media outlets and grassroots activists.
