|
TEXAS - May 6 -
WHAT: At Pepsi's annual shareholders' meeting, Corporate Accountability International's Think Outside the Bottle campaign leaders and their allies will call on the corporation to follow through with proposed changes to the Aquafina label as quickly as possible. Water justice advocates will also ask Pepsi shareholders to support a resolution recognizing the human right to water. There will be press availability immediately preceding and following the meeting.
WHEN: 9:00 am, May 7, 2008
WHERE: Frito-Lay, Inc. Headquarters, 7701 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas
WHO: Gigi Kellett, National Director of the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign, Corporate Accountability International
Dr. Marie Ego, chair of the Peace and Justice Committee, Sisters of Loretto
Stephanie Lynch, student, Emerson College
Rebecca Brown, spokesperson for The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)
Claire DeWitte, spokesperson for NorthStar Asset Management, Inc.
WHY: Last summer Pepsi made national headlines by agreeing to add “Public Water Source” to the Aquafina label. Pepsi’s response to the Think Outside the Bottle campaign is an important first step. At the annual shareholders’ meeting, campaign leaders will represent tens of thousands of people in asking Pepsi to also publicly report breaches in water quality and stop threatening local control of water when siting and operating bottling plants.
