Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold
On the Kenyan Elections

WASHINGTON - January 2 - “I am deeply concerned about the brutal violence in Kenya and about the questions surrounding last week’s election. It is important that Kenya not turn back from the progress it has made since its 2006 election, including a more independent judiciary and a more robust media. The U.S. should support an independent, transparent review of the entire electoral process and its outcomes as a key step towards resolving any irregularities. The Bush administration must continue to urge Kenya’s political leaders to commit to ending the violence and to ensuring the current electoral crisis is resolved through legitimate, peaceful means.”

Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs.
