Amnesty International to Rally for Release of Political Prisoners in Myanmar (Burma)
Local Activists Will Demonstrate in Solidarity with Peaceful Burmese Protestors in NY on Monday

NEW YORK - September 28 –Amnesty International USA activists are planning an urgent rally at noon, Monday, Oct. 1 outside the Myanmar (Burmese) Mission to the United Nations in solidarity with the peaceful protesters in Myanmar (Burma) who are facing an armed crackdown by the military junta.
The activists are calling on the Myanmar government to end the violence that has seen soldiers firing automatic weapons at protesters in an effort to crush nationwide protests. They also demand the release of all political prisoners currently detained, including the Nobel laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the nonviolent movement for human rights and democracy in Myanmar.
The protest will be held in conjunction with the foreign minister of Myanmar's speech at the United Nations scheduled for Monday afternoon.
