Feingold to Hold Hearing To Examine The Federal Death Penalty

WASHINGTON - JUNE 26 - U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on the Constitution, will hold a hearing on Wednesday, June 27th on oversight of the federal death penalty. Among the witnesses at the hearing will be Paul Charlton, a former U.S. Attorney who was among the prosecutors fired by the Justice Department last year. Justice Department documents and testimony suggest that Charlton’s recommendations not to seek the death penalty in some cases may have been a factor in his dismissal.
