NEW YORK - MAY 21 - The aim of this panel is to expose and address the human and gender rights violations that indigenous women and their children experience as indigenous peoples in diaspora within the United States. A dialogue on the connection between the colonial legacy of historic doctrines, such as the Papals Bull and Encomienda System, and present US Immigration policies, such as Right to Work and other key immigration laws, which have established and continue to sustain the present conditions of massive labor exploitation of indigenous women. Also, the panelists will highlight two social struggles that have received international attention, the South Central Farmers and Pueblos Sin Fronteras. We will discuss the interconnections between various indigenous communities living in the US.
