ACLU Settles Case of Sexual Harassment and Labor Law Violations Against Manhattan Hotel

NEW YORK - August 29 - The American Civil Liberties Union today settled a sexual harassment and wage and hour violation case brought in federal district court on behalf of four Latina employees of the Broadway Plaza Hotel.

"We are pleased to announce a settlement that satisfies all parties," Claudia Flores, a staff attorney at the ACLU Women's Rights Project, said.

The plaintiffs, housekeepers at the Broadway Plaza Hotel, alleged sexual harassment by a hotel manager, including sexually offensive behavior and language. In addition, the women complained that the hotel did not comply with federal and state wage and hour laws.

In the settlement agreement, the Broadway Plaza Hotel does not acknowledge any wrongdoing. Additionally, details of the settlement will remain confidential.

The complaint was filed against the Broadway Plaza Hotel on behalf of Juana Sierra Trejo, Gabriela Flores Viegas, Carmen Calixto Rodriquez and Lucero Santes Vazquez. Counsel for plaintiffs are Lenora Lapidus and Flores of the ACLU Women’s Rights Project, and David Barrett and Eric Brenner, of Boies, Schiller & Flexner, LLP.

The ACLU complaint is online at:  www.aclu.org/womensrights/employ/13138lgl20040204.html
