The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities will hold a conference call briefing on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. (ET) to discuss several key issues likely to be featured prominently in the President's State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
The primary emphasis of the call will be several health-care related tax measures that are widely reported to be among the main new initiatives in the speech. The briefing will also cover the President's anticipated call to make the Administration's tax cuts permanent, along with the short-- and long-term impacts of Administration tax and budget policy on deficits and the economy.
The call will feature Robert Reischauer, one of the nation's leading experts on both fiscal policy and health care policy. The former director of the Congressional Budget Office, Reischauer is now both the President of the Urban Institute and the Vice-chairman of the Medicare Payments Advisory Commission (MedPac), Congress' official expert advisory body on Medicare payments. After opening remarks, the panelists will take questions.
