WASHINGTON - December 1 - A busload of Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) activists is traveling to Raleigh, N.C. in order to demonstrate and hold a vigil protesting the execution of Kenneth Boyd, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, Dec. 2, at 2 a.m. EST. If Boyd is executed, it will be the 1,000th execution carried out in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. AIUSA has also sent a letter to North Carolina Governor Michael Easley him to commute Boyd's sentence.
The activists will be departing AIUSA's DC Office at 12:45 p.m. today and is expected to arrive at the vigil in Raleigh by 7:30 p.m. The execution is scheduled to take place at 2 a.m. EST.

3:45 p.m. -- St. Mark's Church, 520 North Boulevard, Richmond, Va. (Abolition Bus riders are allowed to park in the parking lot behind the church.)
7:30 p.m. -- Prayer service; Pullen Memorial Baptist, 1801 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, N.C.
8:30 - 9 p.m. -- Candlelight procession from prayer service to Central Prison along Western Blvd., Raleigh, N.C.
