Candlelight Vigil for the Murdered Women of Juarez

WASHINGTON - October 31 -

WHEN: Tuesday, November 1 2005, 6-7 PM

In memory of the murdered women of Juarez, there will be a silent candlelight vigil with the Amnesty International NYC Human Rights Action Team and Women in Black, on the Day of the Dead ( Dia de los Muertos).

WHERE:
Mexican Consulate
27 East 39th St. (between Madison and Park Ave.)
NYC

Flowers will be placed there in memory of the 400 women and girls who have disappeared, been raped, and been murdered since 1993, in Cuidad Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico.

"We call for more effective intervention by government authorities to investigate this brutal pattern of violence against women and to bring to justice those responsible", said Amnesty International Secretary General Irene Khan after meetings in Mexico this past August with government officials and victims families.

Women in Black NYC stand in silent vigil in support of Mujeres de Negro, Chihuahua (Mexico) and Mujeres de Negro, Barcelona, Madrid (Spain), to protest human rights abuses all over the world, to reflect about women who have been raped, tortured or killed, women who have disappeared, whose loved ones have disappeared or have been killed.
