NEW YORK, NY -- October 26 -- Community activists from throughout the United States are pledging that if there is serious voter disenfranchisement or fraud during the upcoming election, they will be out on the streets in mass, demanding respect for the right to vote and making sure that, unlike in 2000, every vote is counted. They have launched a campaign called No Stolen Elections whose supporters already include Dolores Huerta, United Farm Workers; Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rainbow/PUSH; filmmaker Michael Moore; and representatives from the AFL-CIO, Beyond Voting, CODEPINK, Feminist Majority, League of Pissed off Voters, Liberty Tree Foundation, NAACP, Sierra Club, This Time Were Watching, United for Peace and Justice, and dozens of other groups. For a full list of initial signatories, see www.nov3.us <http://www.nov3.us> . Beginning one week from tomorrow, on November 3, protests will be launched in Tallahassee, Columbus, Las Vegas, Denver, Austin, St. Paul, Seattle, Washington, DC and elsewhere, if there is an attempted stolen election. 14,000 people throughout the country have already signed the No Stolen Elections pledge, which reads, I remember the stolen presidential election of 2000 and I am willing to take action in 2004 if the election is stolen again. I support efforts to protect the right to vote leading up to and on Election Day, November 2nd. If that right is systematically violated, I pledge to join nationwide protests starting on November 3rd, either in my community, in the states where the fraud occurred or in Washington DC." This time, were going to make sure that the person who occupies the White House is the one won the election, said Medea Benjamin of CODPEINK.
