WASHINGTON - September 8 - Moving Ideas, the leading source for progressive public policy on the net, has released in depth analysis and resources on the politics of purging voters from the rolls and counting provisional ballots. "AM I ON THE LIST? Purging Eligible Voters & Counting Provisional Ballots," is first in a four part series on voter protection this month. "The most disturbing thing we discovered when doing this analysis was that this country seems to be on a path to repeat some of the same mistakes from the 2000 election mess, and in the meantime has managed to develop more potential problems," Moving Ideas Director Melanie Alston-Akers laments. "If these issues are not addressed immediately, yet again we could see thousands of voters disenfranchised on Election Day." The report focuses on 1) the voter list purge fiasco in 2000 in Florida and other states, 2) the 2004 Florida purging redux, 3) the benefits and downfalls of provisional ballots, 4) ways to get involved in protecting the vote on November 2, 5) resource links, and 6) a list of organizations working on this issue.
