Not In Our Name says, “We’ll see you in the Park!”

WASHINGTON - August 25 - PRESS CONFERENCE: WEDENSDAY AUGUST 25TH 2004, 9:30 AM

Location: 60 Center St. Court House

Manhattan – As the violence intensifies in Najaf and protestors in America are hounded by the political police, as presidential candidates compete to most ruthlessly conduct the “War On Terror” and countless protestors make their way to New York City to oppose the Republican National Convention, the Not In Our Name project recognizes the power of the massive opposition around the world and declares it will not back down.

“If this city says no to a permit in Central Park, we still say NO! to Bush and all he and this permit decision represent. No matter what the ruling, we’ll see you in the Park!” said Tanya Mayo, national coordinator for the Not In Our Name project.

Mayo said, “People from all over the country want to be in the streets and in Central Park on August 29th to be a part of this massive protest. Mayor Bloomberg needs to decide what side of history he wants to be on. Does he want to be remembered as the man who channeled Mayor Daley, Chicago’s infamous mayor during the 1968 Democratic National Convention who ordered police to attack protesters? Or does Bloomberg want to be remembered as the man who finally listened to reason and the First Amendment?”
