WASHINGTON - April 20 - With Earth Day just around the corner on April 22nd, SaveOurEnvironment.org, a coalition of the nations 21 most prominent environmental groups, is launching a comprehensive online action center as part of a new coordinated campaign aimed at halting the Bush administrations attacks on environmental protections. The online action center is available at www.SaveOurEnvironment.org/earthday. Since the Bush administration came into office, it has been sabotaging essential environmental safeguards. Earth Day is the perfect time for Americans to show the Bush administration we will not stand by as our earth is polluted and the health of our children endangered, said Gene Karpinski, Executive Director of US Public Interest Research Group. SaveOurEnvironment.orgs Online Earth Day Action Center will coordinate online and offline activities taking place on and around Earth Day, April 22. At the Action Center, participants will be able to view the campaigns television commercials and flash videos, send messages to the administrations leaders in protest of recent rollbacks of key environmental laws and find out about Earth Day activities occurring in their community. The new campaign is designed to raise awareness of the Bush administrations assault on longstanding environmental protections. In particular, the Earth Day campaign focuses on the EPAs recently proposed 15-year delay in cleaning up toxic mercury pollution from power plants. SaveOurEnvironment.org is a collaborative effort of the nation's most influential environmental advocacy organizations to harness the power of the internet to increase public awareness and activism on today's most important environmental problems. ###
