Statement by Adam Goldberg, Policy Analyst, Consumers Union, Regarding the Oklahoma Court Decision to Overturn the Do Not Call Registry
| WASHINGTON
- September 24 - "Over 50 million consumers already have signed up for the Do-Not-Call registry after Congress made it a priority to give consumers the right not to be bothered by telemarketers. The message is clear -- consumers are sick and tired of having their lives interrupted by constant telemarketing calls, and they want it to stop now. Whatever real or perceived problems this court has with the registry doesnt change this fact.
"Whatever happens with the court decision, Congress could pass a law overnight to correct any deficiencies the court believes it may have found, and we expect them to do so. American consumers deserve what was promised to them the right to peaceful evenings at home without the intrusion of unwanted telemarketers.
