- September 22 - At a 9:30 a.m. news conference at the National Press Club tomorrow, the American Civil Liberties Union will announce the first nationwide challenge to restrictions on protesters critical of President Bush and other senior Administration officials.
The lawsuit will be filed against the U.S. Secret Service on behalf of four well-known national advocacy organizations whose members were discriminated against when they criticized Bush Administration policies at rallies and events around the country attended by the President or other senior officials.
ACLU attorneys and representatives of those organizations - including a retired steelworker who was detained during a rally in Pennsylvania -- will be on hand to describe the lawsuit and answer questions. Copies of the lawsuit and a fact sheet on incidents around the country will be available at the news conference.
