- September 28 - News Advisory:
A report on child soldiers issued today by the Coalition to Stop
the Use of Child Soldiers warns that the current crisis may see
unprecedented levels of child recruitment and mobilization into
military action.
Research conducted by Amnesty International, a member of the
coalition, is cited in the report to underscore concern that
religious schools in Pakistan have become recruiting grounds for
the Taleban. In some cases, the recruitment is involuntary.
Amnesty International USA's Advocacy Director for Asia, T.
Kumar, is available for interview and analysis of the use of child
soldiers in the region.
Contact Amnesty International at 202-544-0200, ext. 289 or
212-633-4247 to schedule an interview or for further information.
