Amnesty International USA to Host Rally on January 11 to Mark Sixth Anniversary of Guantanamo Bay Detentions

WASHINGTON, DC - January 4 - Amnesty International members and other activists will gather at the National Mall at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11th to mark the sixth anniversary of the first arrival of detainees at the U.S.-controlled detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Guantanamo has held more than 700 men detained by the U.S. in the name of the war on terror, and to date, only 10 have been charged with a crime -- a regime of indefinite detention that degrades our nation's values.

Amnesty International USA's executive director Larry Cox will speak at the event, along with representatives from National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Center for Constitutional Rights, Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition and Witness Against Torture.

EVENT: Protest Rally Marking Sixth Anniversary of First Detainees to Guantanamo
DATE: Friday, January 11, 2008
TIME: Beginning at 11:00 a.m.
LOCATION: National Mall at 12th Street, N.W. (Across from Smithsonian Metro)
Washington, D.C.
