New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center to Commemorate the Lives Lost to AIDS on World AIDS Day, Wednesday, Dec. 1

NEW YORK, NY -- November 29 -- News Advisory:New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center to commemorate the lives lost to AIDS on World AIDS Day, Wednesday, Dec. 1

New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, the largest lesbian and gay community center on the East Coast, will remember those lost to AIDS at its annual World AIDS Day commemoration on December 1. The event will be held at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, 208 West 13th Street in New York City, from 12:30 to 8 p.m. The international theme of this year's World AIDS Day is Women & HIV/AIDS.

The Center's special program will feature the creation of new AIDS quilt panels, the reading of names of those lost to AIDS, a montage of personal narratives from women living with HIV/AIDS and reflections shared by caregivers of those living with HIV/AIDS. It will be followed by the annual march to City Hall for the 24-hour reading of names and candlelight vigil.

From condoms to counseling, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center has been at the forefront of providing services in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The Center provides 5,000 counseling sessions annually for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, and, since its inception, more than 3,000 people have attended the annual World AIDS Day vigils sponsored by the Center. Thousands more have attended the Center's educational forums, conferences and other HIV/AIDS events. The Center is the beneficiary of an annual cycling event, Braking the Cycle (http://www.brakingthecycle.org), which helps fund the organization's critical HIV/AIDS services.

Established in 1983, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center is the largest LGBT multi-service organization on the East Coast and second largest LGBT community center in the world. Every week, 6,000 people visit the Center and more than 300 groups meet there. Visit www.gaycenter.org to learn more, or call 212-620-7310.
