NARAL Pro-Choice America Opposes Deceptive and Callous Attempt by Congress to Undermine Right to Choose

WASHINGTON - February 26 - Statement of President Kate Michelman on “Unborn Victims of Violence Act”

We must punish severely crimes that deprive women and their families of a hoped-for future child, and Congress could easily pass a bill that would punish criminals and honor families’ losses without entangling the issue in the abortion rights debate at all. But the anti-choice leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives hopes to chip away at women’s rights by passing this deceitful legislation. In Tom DeLay’s House, protecting families and punishing criminals is less important than taking advantage of tragedy to promote the far-right agenda of trying to rob women of their right to choose.
