Thousands Protest Living Conditions, Government Corruption in Haiti

Several thousand people took to the streets in Port-au-Prince, Haiti Sunday to protest the high cost of living, rising food prices and allegations of corruption in the current government of President Michel Martelly.

The Martelly government has struggled to improve living conditions since the nation's devastating earthquake of 2010.

"The president has made so many promises but nothing has become a reality," protester Max Dorlien said. "It's only a clique of his friends who are making money."

The protesters, largely supporters of former two-time president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, were also marking the 21st anniversary of the former president's first ouster.
