Kucinich Speaks Out at Debate

WASHINGTON - September 25 - Only Kucinich and Rev. Al Sharpton spoke in favor of bringing the troops home from Iraq now and denying the President another $87 billion. Only Kucinich will vote No on the $87 billion. Only Kucinich argued that the occupation of Iraq would hurt the U.S. economy by draining resources.

Only Kucinich advocated withdrawing from NAFTA and the WTO in favor of bilateral trade conditioned on workers' rights and environmental protections.

Kucinich spoke against any privatization of Social Security. Only Kucinich advocated returning the retirement age for full benefits to 65.

Kucinich argued for taking control of health care away from the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies and advocated passage of the Medicare for All plan he has introduced in Congress together with Congressmen Conyers and McDermott, a plan that would cover every American.

Only Kucinich and Sharpton said we need to shift our priorities from the Pentagon budget to health care, education, and job creation. Kucinich drew attention to the maldistribution of wealth, pointing out that the top 270,000 tax payers have gotten the same benefits as the bottom 129 million.

Only Kucinich spoke in favor of breaking up corporate monopolies. We cannot keep our democracy, Kucinich said, if those in charge are not honest. He said we need disclosure, public audits, and accountability.

Only Kucinich said he would work to end the death penalty, cut the Pentagon budget by 15% to pay for child care, and establish a Department of Peace.
