| NEW YORK - August 25 - On September 10th, the eve of the second anniversary of the 911 tragedy, thousands of New Yorkers and others from around the country, will join members of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows to mourn those lost, heal those that survived and rekindle the hope for a better world.
Organizers are planning to lead marchers in a silent candlelight procession down Broadway to the World Trade Center site which they will encircle and stand in silent vigil.
According to Dawn Peterson, a Manhattan resident who lost her brother in the World Trade Center, the families sought an alternative to a memorial centered around politicians and celebrities: We envision the vigil as an opportunity for all New Yorkers, 9/11 families and other affected communities to gather to express our common desire for healing and finding peace in a world increasingly relying on violence to solve its problems. As recent events have shown, we need a commitment to peace now more than ever.
