Dissident Diplomats Speak on San Francisco Public Radio

SAN FRANCISCO - March 13 - After 20 years of service to diplomacy and civil debate, John Brady Kiesling, a senior U.S. diplomat based in Athens, Greece, resigned from his post in protest over the Bush administration's policy on Iraq. In an impassioned letter to his boss, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Kiesling said the Bush administration was involved in "a systematic distortion of intelligence" and "a systematic manipulation of public opinion" not seen since the days of Vietnam.

Just a week later, a second career diplomat, John H. Brown, followed suit. He too wrote to Secretary of State Powell: "I a joining my colleague John Brady Kiesling in submitting my resignation from the Foreign Service (effective immediately) because I cannot in good conscience support President Bush's war plans against Iraq."

The two men will meet for the first time, live, on Thursday, March 13, on Working Assets Radio on KALW (91.7 fm) and answer listener questions.
