White House Press Briefing with Ari Fleischer

December 13, 2001 12:00 Noon

by Russell Mokhiber

  Mokhiber: Ari, two questions.

First, Fox News reported yesterday that some 60 Israelis have been detained in the United States since September 11 and that federal investigators suspect that these Israelis may have gathered intelligence about the September 11 attacks in advance and not shared it. Can you shed any light on this report?

Ari Fleischer: No, I would just refer you to the Department of Justice. I'm not familiar with the reports.

Mokhiber: Second question, a professor at the University of New Hampshire reported --

Ari Fleischer: Thank you.

(The news conference abruptly ends as Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling of the World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks appear on the Ari's platform and give him a Diamondbacks baseball cap and t-shirt. The Diamondbacks are at the White House today to meet with the President. Ari is a big time New York Yankee fan, and Johnson and Schilling wanted to rub it in.)
