US Soldier(s) Open Fire on Afghan Civilians in Murder Spree
UPDATE:
The latest reports coming from witnesses are now saying that more than one US soldier partook in last nights rogue killings. Sources vary; however, up to 3 soldiers took part in the attacks taking the lives of many, including nine children.

Reuters reports:
Western forces shot dead 16 civilians including nine children in southern Kandahar province on Sunday, Afghan officials said, in a rampage that witnesses said was carried out by American soldiers who were laughing and appeared drunk.
One Afghan father who said his children were killed in the shooting spree accused soldiers of later burning the bodies.
Witnesses told Reuters they saw a group of U.S. soldiers arrive at their village in Kandahar's Panjwayi district at around 2 am, enter homes and open fire. [...]
Haji Samad said 11 of his relatives were killed in one house, including his children. Pictures showed blood-splattered walls where the children were killed.
"They (Americans) poured chemicals over their dead bodies and burned them," a weeping Samad told Reuters at the scene.
"I saw that all 11 of my relatives were killed, including my children and grandchildren," said Samad, who had left the home a day earlier.
Neighbors said they awoke to crackling gunfire from American soldiers, whom they described as laughing and drunk.
"They were all drunk and shooting all over the place," said neighbor Agha Lala, who visited one of the homes where the incident took place. "Their bodies were riddled with bullets."

Los Angeles Times reports:
Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan -- A lone American serviceman slipped away from his base in southern Afghanistan before dawn Sunday and went on a methodical house-to-house shooting spree in a nearby village, killing 16 people, nearly all of them women and children, according to Afghan officials who visited the scene.
The NATO force confirmed that the assailant was in military custody, and that he had inflicted an unspecified number of casualties during the shooting spree at about 3 a.m. Sunday. The U.S. Embassy called for calm and expressed deep condolences; the Taliban referred to the killings as an “act of genocide.”
The British Broadcasting Corp. reported that the shooter was a staff sergeant and a member of the U.S. special operations forces who had been involved in training the Afghan police.
The incident, potentially the worst atrocity of the 10-year war to be deliberately carried out by a single member of the Western military, represents a stunning setback to U.S.-Afghan relations, already shaken by last month’s burning of copies of the Koran at a U.S. military base north of Kabul.
Anti-U.S. sentiment flared into deadly riots after the Koran-burning at Bagram airfield came to light. American officials have said the action was a mistake and offered profuse apologies, but some Afghans, including lawmakers and senior clerics, brushed aside the apologies and called for harsh punishment of those involved.
The shooting early Sunday took place in Panjwayi district outside Kandahar city, in a village called Alkozai. U.S. military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was believed that the assailant had suffered a mental breakdown.
Al-Jazeera reports:
"Eleven members of my family are dead. They are all dead," Haji Samad, an elder from Panjwai district, told the AFP news agency.
Captain Justin Brockhoff, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), could not confirm any fatalities in the incident.
“This is a horrific incident, and our thoughts are with the families of the affected. Our initial reports indicate multiple civilians - between four and six- are wounded. Those civilians are receiving care at coalition medical facilities," he told Al Jazeera.
"At this point we do not have an indication - we can not speculate about the individual's motives."
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith, reporting from Herat, said the soldier entered three houses near the base and opened fire on civilians.
"We are now being told by the police sources that the US soldier left his base at three o clock this morning. It would have been pitch-black wherever he walked," he said.
"The soldier went through three separate houses, shooting at people as they slept in their beds. After the soldier shot these people, he turned himself in."

You appear to have misread and misinterpreted various commenters' remarks, and you seem to be protesting a wee bit too much.
If you want to see what American-Americans on the Left think about the First Black President, I encourage you to read anything by Glen Ford and/or Bruce A. Dixon or any of the other brilliant writers and commentators at Black Agenda Report -- it will open your eyes and then some -- so, here are a few recent samples:

While Paul Street is white, Glen Ford and Bruce A. Dixon are African-American.
Paul Street has written the two most definitive books on Obama to date:
Barack Obama and the Future of American Politics (2008)
The Empire's New Clothes: Barack Obama and the Real World of Power (2010)
I encourage you to read the above pieces of critical analysis and then see if the commenters here at CD are being too hard on the First Black President.

Obama has embraced the Empire with his heart and soul, the opposite of Malcolm and MLK.
We cannot rely on "leaders," we must rely on ourselves as collective members of the 99%, one for all and all for one. From D'Artagnan to Mao, the message remains constant, because it remains true. The 99% matter; our "leaders" in the 1% can go to hell.
I have problems with this because these creeps will most likely be coming home and commingling with the general population such that it is and for those who do come back home to the now united sordid states of america. Walking time bombs or more like the new packaged suicide bomber of america walking around in america. But casualties and death are a big business here now and it isn't enough that we already have distraught people going around and killing all their family members and friends and coworkers because their jobs were farmed overseas or just plain fired for no good reason.
Not hard to recognize this brand spanking new american tradition. And so to give recognition for this let us all look to the people we elect in our local, state and federal governments and the scotus for their sterling work in bringing us to this united sordid states of america. Just turn and look and bow towards washington d.c. and wall street.
A lost nation, leaving carnage wherever it goes. Be ready for the blowback!
It is bound to happen when your soldiers were either deliberately indoctrinated or picked up the idea all by themselves that their targets were "gooks", "ragheads", "brown shit" or "sub-humans".
American propaganda has reduced others to caricatures for a few hundred years now and it has become engrained in the American psyche.
American propaganda degraded first the natives, then the African slaves brought over to work the malaria ridden rice fields and then tobacco, then more natives, then Manifest Destiny, then the Mexicans and Texas, then the Filipinos and Hawaiians, then the Spanish, then most of Central and South America, then WWI, continue with all of this during the 1920s and 1930s, but add the Middle East and Africa, until WWII, and then a vast expansion of the above, until we have spread this incredible violence to the entire world.
Spreading democracy at the point of a gun. God Bless Amerika.
As others, I believe, have noted, these murderous soldiers should, in an ideal world, be turned over to the Afghans in order to stand trial for what they had done to their victims. But as an Army major assures Captain Marco [played by Frank Sinatra] in the 1962 film The Manchurian Candidate:
The Army takes cares of its own.
And undoubtedly the Obama administration, like its predecessors, will continue to claim that the United States must remain in Afghanistan and Iraq in order to hunt down and kill terrorists without ever acknowledging that the real terrorists in the Middle East and elsewhere are those who are disguised as U.S. military personnel.
Someday someone needs to do an analysis of the effect of distancing the slaughter of animals from daily life had on expanding mass murder of humans. If you can ignore one mass slaughter, certainly you can ignore the next.
It's so hard to be a murderer, they must be pitied. It's such a strain being soldier, they are lucky to get the counselling...
On a more serious note: the story shows how crazy being in irrational, aggressive war makes the soldiers. - And soon they'll all be coming home...
Great. That'll help. - Now everyone's happy again. Case closed. So glad that's solved.
I think it is time for you to find out what, and who is running your country, it might surprise you.
I agree with much of what you say, except for your moralistic tone against the various people who have posted comments here on CD. You don't come here often, so you don't know the spirit level of this site.
What you see as a lack of shame or narcissism, looks to me more like short hand to get to the point, because most of the posters have made their overall views known over time.
I don't know, but I would guess from your posts that you live in Canada, a country bent of latching its remora like suction lips to the posterior of the Amerikan war machine. If so, don't complain about CD, go after Harper.
Much ado about very little on your part.
You make a big deal out of a small idea you cooked up in order to cast aspersion and a feeling of guilt ("oh my god, now we're bigots!") upon those who disagree with the official conspiracy theory (which states that 19 Islamist militants and their leaders alone BOTH carried out the attacks of September 11th, 2001 AND totally destroyed the Twin Towers and neutralized the defense apparatus of the Pentagon so that AA Flight 77 could be slammed into it). You think you found a good angle, but you are dead wrong.
We all know that all kinds of people can hurt all kinds of people. I don't think we need your lights to teach us that.
What you don't realize, because, being so sure that you know what happened on 9/11, you did not bother looking into the matter, is that there are different skeptical approaches to what happened on 9/11.
The one put forth by Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth (see their Web site, if you can overcome your dogmatic anger) has nothing to do with blaming anyone, but rather with the assessment of the phenomena observed during and after, and with the physical remains of, the destruction of the three steel-frame high-rise buildings at the WTC. Those data cannot be accounted for by the hypothesis issued by NIST's final reports on the collapse of the three buildings, namely, that fire and the impacts of the planes in the case of WTC 1 and 2, and merely fire in the case of WTC 7, caused the complete destruction of the buildings. On the other hand, controlled demolition by means of explosives can provide such an account. For a detailed account, see the video "The Architecture of Destruction" at the aforementioned Web site. Incidentally, large quantities of residues of a very powerful explosive have now been found in the dust produced by the destruction of the three WTC buildings (this is discussed in the video).
As for the identity of those who planted the explosives, it is for a proper criminal investigation into the attacks (which has yet to be performed) to discover who they are and to bring them to justice. AE9/11 Truth refuses to speculate in that respect.

It honestly doesn't matter WHO perpetrated the actions of 9/11. The results BENEFITED the Corporate cabal now in power. These same criminals are the ones manipulating the easily led into turning their backs on the hard won rights that their ancestors fought and died for.
Let me be very plain here: YOU ARE BEING USED. WILLINGLY.
This all too common atrocity is a SYMPTOM of the collective insanity known as CIVILIZATION. The psychopathic minority we know as the Corporate, Financial and political Elite have long known how to manipulate you into carrying out the brutal actions that bring them pleasure.
But I do know from investigating many legal situations with professional private detectives that serious investigation often exposes huge flaws in the initial official government investigation.
The greatest flaw in the government theory always has been the general knowledge of government incompetence. How could W and Cheney, two men who have gone through live with a blunderbuss, have finessed such a major operation.
On the other hand, the owners of the Twin Towers have kept super low profiles, like smart people do. And I agree with your issue of who benefited -- cui bono? But that brings me to private parties, not the government. Who had the most to gain? The owners of the Twin Towers, a bad investment full of asbestos. The owners wanted to take the towers down and rebuild, but the vast amount of asbestos in the buildings required manual destruction, floor by floor, at vast expense.
Why not pack it with explosives and blame it on the Muslims? Insurance covers.
I have a statement to make: "It is believed that some time before, the USA had suffered a nervous breakdown"
There's really not a lot of difference between this 'random' massacre and state sanctioned massacre.
Thousands have posted on other sites. From the limited web surfing I have done, the majority of Americans seem to support these killings. (I hope I am wrong, but Americans love killing). I hope the actual opinions differ significantly, because I cannot believe rational, decent human beings could support such atrocities.
But at a minimum, the web shows that a large percentage of Americans support the indiscriminate and mass murder of innocent Muslims. WTF?
_____________________________________________________________________ There are non more disillusioned, then the disillusioned..
These people have probaly never heard the term American exceptionalism.
I heard a comment about this incident on the radio shortly after it was reported..
The comment was;" they (meaning the Afgan people), should be thankful for all we have done for them". No remorse in that individuals voice at all.
Buddha said that the true meassure of intelligence, is the amount of compassion one has for their fellow man..
No wonder we are in trouble after hearing someone say something like this about a murder of innocent people sleeping in their beds.
Sometimes I almost give up hope!
There have been a lot of such actions by military lately and a lot of suicides in the military... Last Friday an army sgt. here shot and killed himself while driving in town, the car crashed and luckily no one else was injured.
The recent case of Marines killing civilians and pissing on the bodies and taking a video of it... Unbelievable... This guy or guys if it turns out there were more than just one who killed these innocent people in their beds, mostly women and children is not sane... No sane person does such acts, it is inhuman.
He knew what he was doing, drunk, sober or crazy, he turned himself in for doing what he did… Why did he do it is the unknown and we may never be know.
Why did the nut shoot Gabby Giffords and kill six others including a child? Why did the kids kill other kids at Columbine High School? And remember the guy who entered a restaurant in Texas and killed a dozen and the many killings at universities and other schools… It's crazy.
It happens daily here in the United States many times over. We don't hear about most of them unless it's in our city or town… Unless it's a mass killing we seldom hear about them... But it's almost like an epidemic of insanity.
I would not think of taking a trip to another country anymore... I'd be ashamed to be an American and have the citizens of other countries look at me. That is pitiful to realize how far down we have fallen as a nation.
If we asked a dozen experts on the subject we would get a dozen different answers.. I see violence on TV, the movies, sports, (video games) and the children enjoy it… That has been going on for at least the past 30 years and has gotten worse by the year. Extreme boxing? ...It's more like gladiators. We will fall as Rome fell. Only faster, this is the Jet Age.
Why, what are the reasons? Mind altering drugs, a gun society, inhaling chemicals and DU? Poisoned water and food? Violence on the boob tube and in video games and movies? I dunno? A mixture of all of those things ?
Then we see so many decent kids and us here and the average family and students and military and yes, (police officers), and even some politicians. Bu too many bad or evil ones of every group.
I see lots of young kids during the year. I teach history part time and give lessons on gardening to young kids. They are swell kids. and then I see the news of a bunch of kids beating up on one and street gangs and violence on the so called entertainment spectrum... It's wrong, sick.
What I see in America is a few in comparison to the many who are not right, and the (few) are far too many. And then we have our corrupt government leaders, who wage war, we learned nothing from Vietnam. And then when Haiti was devastated by that major earthquake did we help them? __ No! __ Millions of dollars were raised to help them but they never saw it… That is sick.
We never should have been in Afghanistan in the first place. And we have destroyed Iraq and we might destroy Iran. And the drones...They are killing people and it's like a (*video game*).... It's insane.
Anyway, I'm an old guy, going on 80 now. I've been around the block a few times and have seen American in a far different way and no America a was never perfect, but almost everyone wanted to come here to live the American dream years ago.
I remember when other people liked and respected us. I don't think anyone does now. I'm ashamed of us and have been for several years, ever since Bush Jr. and Cheney started their war for money.
I don't want to feel that way,,, but I do.... We're sick, and it is not the majority who are sick… But, maybe it is? __ After reading the comments posted here by Galenwainwright... Mar 11 2012 - 2:34pm,,, I wonder? This kind of shit has to stop.
Excellent post. (Straight from the heart).
I still cannot find the proper words to describe my feelings. Yesterday, I was so angry. When is this insanity going to stop? I am still angry...

No offense, Lee O, but heads are already rolling-- or more likely, reduced to the bone splinter and tissue mush cheerfully dubbed "bug splat" by military perpetrators-- from targeted assassinations and drone missile attacks enthusiastically authorized by the "more just" Obama.
And "more just" Obama never gets tired of self-righteously defending and praising the Amerikan military's wonderful work.
Last but not least, the "more just" Obama is second to no other elected official in flouting the Constitution and repudiating the traditional civil liberties enumerated in its Bill of Rights; to Obama, the joke's on progressive voters who supported him in naïve, ignorant, or desperate good faith.
