Egyptians Stage Day of Disobedience, Demand "Down With Military Rule!"
General strike called on day marking one year since Mubarak was toppled
Egyptians are carrying out a day of disobedience today, marking one year since former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled, with crowds calling for an end to military rule.

The call for strikes in universities and workplaces comes after a series of protests pressuring the military to transfer power immediately to civilians, rather than wait for planned presidential elections later this year.
The military, headed by Mubarak's long-time defence minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, has said it will deploy additional troops across the country in response to the calls for a day of disobedience.
Al Jazeera adds that thousands of Egyptians were in the streets yesterday demanding an end to military rule:
In a joint statement on Friday, the protesting groups urged Egyptians "to support these strikes in order to end the unjust rule and build a nation in which justice, freedom and dignity prevail".
The call for strikes and protests has divided the country's political forces, with the Muslim Brotherhood, the big winner in the recent parliamentary elections, coming out against it.
Many Egyptians complain that the economy has been battered by the lack of security and deadly violence in the wake of the 18-day revolt that forced Mubarak to resign on February 11 last year.
On Friday, thousands of protesters marched through Cairo's streets to bypass military cordons and reach the defence ministry, chanting "Down with military rule!"

Show All"Down with American imperialism!"
But that would mean that Americans would have to feel and express empathy for those who are being slaughtered by U.S. 500 lb. bombs and drone missiles. And expressing concern for those who have become the victims of American aggression overseas is something that most Americans cannot be bothered with.

It is and always has been a military dictatorship. It is long overdue for the people of this 'country' to remove the blinders that protect their beliefs about their privileged status... and end the tyranny of this military dictatorship.
i don’t know if moses was a schizophrenic religious zealot who heard the voice of g_d or a political philosopher who saw that people born into slavery and superstition could more easily be led from one myth if given a new myth: and a flattering one, too? “chosen” not to be slaves, but to judge and rule the world. kind of a self-imposed karma. unfortunately, although the omnipotent almighty god of israel whished to give them deed of title to the promise land, he needed an army of young men willing to slaughter the usurper, canaanites or die trying. . a military works on a chain-of-command hierarchy which crowns the greatest general, king of kings. those who fight most valiantly for the king who rules by divine right receive favors in land including and a noble title. the rest of the “chosen” get to be obedient, mind-numbed serfs. pharos, kings, dictators weave into the myth that superior wisdom and moral character are god’s gift, along with deed to the land, power over coinage and the awesome responsibility to police and monitor the behavior of us lesser gods.
all great quotes from erroll and I’m saving all in my files. thanks! on another thread someone gave a link to “George Carlin addressed the illusion of democracy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC_wjQtfhZQ” oh gosh, george said it well! for over two hundred years the conquering civilization has attempted to mask military rule as freedom and democracy. square peg, round hole. “it’s good to be king”??? in your dreams! i’ve concluded that our collective identity has been ensnarled by a nobleman’s wet dream.
I try to give the public the benefit of the doubt, especially inasmuch as public schooling is propaganda, the corporate media is propaganda etc. But it doesn't require any great amount of schooling to see through the lies of the US government, or that there is a pattern of massive and repeated war mongering and lying in justification of it. Most American people just don't give a hoot about non-American deaths; indeed, many don't even care about American war deaths anymore.
Are we to assume that these groupings are all homogenous?
Are these groups infiltrated with Muslim extremists?
Is the military trying to keep the leadership secular?
What is the true nature of the disorder in Syria?
Every published article only reports the violence and fails to addresss what is happening religeously and ideologically. Seemingly, this is a total failure of the media.
