Democrat Pushed To The Ground, Arrested By Local Police At Eric Cantor Public Event (Video)
WASHINGTON -- A Democrat was arrested by local police at a public meet-and-greet event for Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on Monday, with three men pulling him out of the building and pushing him to the ground for allegedly causing a disturbance in the coffee shop.
Jon Taylor, the man at the center of the controversy, said he was "manhandled" by police from Louisa, Va. He and three other Democrats -- including his wife, who held a sign promoting Cantor's Democratic opponent Rick Waugh -- went to the event with the intent to ask Cantor questions since he has refused to debate Waugh.
When Ray Minter, the owner of the coffee house, asked the Taylors to leave, they refused, and local authorities intervened. Minter said they were being disorderly, but the group of Democrats said they were simply drinking coffee and waiting for Cantor to arrive.
"I don't mind people being here that don't agree with the Congressman or want to ask questions," Minter said. "[But] they were acting up and speaking, and indicating that they were not going to sit quietly during the event."
According to the Louisa Central Virginian, approximately a dozen officers from the police office came to the scene. The department is saying there was no excessive force used in subduing Taylor.
"This is a pattern with Rick Waugh of disruptive and frankly thuggish behavior," said Cantor spokesman Ray Allen, Jr. "And frankly, he needs to get control of his campaign." The Waugh campaign said it had nothing to do with the incident.
"The Louisa County police department was basically used by Eric Cantor's campaign to make a political statement," said Taylor. The police have denied the charge and said that two other people left without having to be restrained.
Cantor has refused to debate his opponents, claiming that he is either too busy in Washington to do so or doesn't want to give the other candidates "a platform for a food fight." Waugh even occasionally has a person in a chicken costume with a sign reading "Eric Cantor" to drive home his point.
Local blogger Peter Galuszka was sharply critical of the scuffle, writing, "Events like these raise questions about the decorum of the man who would be in such a powerful position on Capitol Hill. Violence at campaign stops, regardless of who may be at fault, is not something commonplace in Virginia politics."
Taylor was arrested for trespassing, resisting arrest and creating a public disturbance. His three companions were issued summonses for trespassing.
Taylor's son Bradley captured the arrest on video. WATCH:
Monday's incident is the latest in which questions of excessive force by campaigns or campaign supporters have popped up. Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller had a private security force at a recent event which handcuffed and detained a reporter who was trying to ask the candidate questions, and an activist with MoveOn.org had her head stomped on by a supporter of Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul.

Show AllThe old man should gather witnesses and sue the crap out of the PD.
what on earth would that accomplish? Even if he won the suit, the taxpayers would foot the bill. Police have impunity in the US.
The lard-**s is two Big Macs away from a job as a Security Officer. And, in case no one noticed, he tried to break the older man's neck. They definitely should sue for excessive force.
Facts on the ground as was this gentleman or a sympathy distraction?

A proposed work around the Symington Amendment? We have been fleeced enough and it does not matter what country is involved. It must end.
wow...what large, lumbering cops...
Its the way we make 'um here in America! Nah, our consumer culture isn't out of control! This is the way people are supposed to look!
Excuse me, monsieur, but would you like extra fat on those 'freedom fries'?
Republicans and conservatives are disturbingly embracing 1930's era Brown Shirt thuggery...these fascist cops need to be confront with the Constitution.

Your right dubet. I ve been employed in Police Communications for 25 years. My stats: are 6'1" 195 lbs, avg bp 130/70 or better. I keep very fit. These Police Officers are probably Rejects from Virginia State Police that were turned down due to overweight. There typical of small town Police Officers that couldnt get hired with better departments.
It would be very interesting to read a biography of the overweight policeman who rushed to "assist" his comrades in this fascist action.
I believe that individuals with severe problems are hired by sheriff's departments and "security" forces everywhere for their ability to "take down" citizens--by throwing their weight around.
Ever since 911 we lick the boots of these "heroes" who daily "risk their lives" for law 'n order.
Forget Mexican immigrants; this obese man is clearly an "illegal alien" dressed as a police officer. I do not like having people like this for neighbors.
I don't believe that you can be on the police if you are not a citizen of the US so I don't think he is an illegal alien.
He is a fat piece of shit though, LOL

No there hired because they can't get hired by better police Departments with higher physical standards. In Maryland you see State Troopers that are fit thin and trim. You see small town and County Deputies with fat over the belt guts, typical of that song "The Big Bellied Sheriff grabbed the gun and said why did you do it?"
You should see one of the Sheriff Candidates running currently in my county. He looks like the Tick they didnt pull off the dog in time.
Each of of these violent "incidents" probably motivates the GOP base even more. I hope it prods the Dem base to the polls. Even though the Dems suck, Obama's not on the ballot and if think the Dems suck wait till you get GOP majorities.
"When Ray Minter, the owner of the coffee house, asked the Taylors to leave, they refused."
Unfortunately, that is why the chickenshit GOP have their rallys on private property. The owner has the right to ask anyone to leave. Refusal constitutes trespassing.
"The owner has the right to ask anyone to leave."
And does that "owner" have the right to refuse service and ask all people of a given race or religion to leave just because he/she does not like that race, religion, or perceived political persuasion?
Politics IS a religion to some of these people. And they follow it blindly without question.
Think Gaza or the West Bank (or Jerusalem). Helen Thomas was right. Call me what you want for telling the truth. No x:mm here.
The American Liberty League in 1934 tried to do exactly what the Tea Party /GOP are doing now, to overthrow the government, and implement hitlerian policies. Apparently the tactics have already began by the new gestapo.
Not much different from the mentality of the docker thugs who stopped the recount in FL to steal the shrub vs gore election
Perfect example of how ugly it's gotten in this country. Won't be long 'till the shooting starts.
the Taylors are all set. just sue the bastards, from Mint to the police, into bankrupsy, social if not financial.
Another Sturmabteilung like incident thanks to the GOP. Just as in Weimar Germany, the police were slanted towards the right wing thugs.
Not much good all this video of police abuse is, if it doesn't cause people to revolt against all authority.
There seems to be a pattern to this violence. If you think this is bad, wait until election day. Across America, Tea Partiers have promised to show up at the voting booths to 'question' anyone who looks like they might not be a legitimate voter (aka: who looks Latino).
"approximately a dozen officers from the police office came to the scene. The department is saying there was no excessive force used in subduing Taylor."
a dozen officers?!?
right there is proof of excessive force.
a coffee shop owner has a disorderly customer and they send in 12 cops?
think about it...
they can try out their restraining techniques without risking their well-being against someone who might actually be a criminal and fight back.
pathetic.
if that had been my father, i would have kicked that fat cop in the ficking face.
don't these piggie rambos have anything better to do?
Support the troops! Remember they will turn and fire on Americans at the order of Sarah Palin in 2012. Any liberal, progressive or intellectual will become an enemy of the state.
Looks like the Koch brothers or some other well healed fascist types have got themselves some real reliable storm troopers, but that may actually expose the real deal even to some really silly and off the wall types who have so far not got a real idea of what this Tea Party fruit cakism is all about.
AD
I saw the video.
WARNING to all potential arrestees.
When the cops suspect they may be recorded, as they prod, pinch, twist or clamp on the arrestee in the most painful manner possible, I am under the impression they have been taught by their Field Training Officers (never at taxpayer supported police Academies) to repeat over and over and over as they inflict pain, "Stop resisting, stop resisting, stop resisting." Thus, an excuse to continue the painful man-handling.
The police astutely want to make sure the camera captures "their predicament," and "they had no choice but to use the reasonable force necessary to restrain the arrestee."
It's a game. And they know the verbal formula for a 'pre-emptive strike" should this video go before a criminal or civil jury.
As video after video after video of similar take-downs has shown and where the police "spontaneously" utter that identical phrase: The arrestee either has no leverage to resist, has no ability to resist, or is unable to resist. And most folks go limp to make it easy on the cop to handcuff one.
Remember in this game: that the rules are rigged against the weakest and most undesireable elements of our society.
The police know the rules, too. So they make sure that in this game the arrestee comes off as an "undesireable" or as an individual doing undesireable things who "got what he deserved."
Behave accordingly. Say out loud, "I am not resisting and you know it. You're using this arrest as an excuse to torture me and/cause me pain, you sadist. You're succeeding, I am handcuffed."
Best to reserve judgement for 24 hours. By then, Herr Limbaugh, Herr Beck and the assorted hairdos of Faux Nooz will have exposed this Taylor guy's lifelong devotion to subverting the glory of the Reich. Or democracy. Or something.
Before it's over, Minter AND the municipality will sue Taylor, after first demanding an apology for his having trashed the diner and roughed up the cops.
The rest of us will be more secure as a result of their heroic action.
It reminds one of the way the anti-war protesters were treated after the Republican squad took over. At least we had almost a two year break from this sick behavior, but look out now for much more violence from this patriotic, religious, high-morals group that are going to take back their country.
Where in the hell did little ol' Louisa, Virginia come up with a dozen police officers? All at one time? No way.
I've been following the district 7 race a bit. The Democrat has little to no real campaign going on; the only way he could win is if there is a true throw-the-incumbents-out mania that takes hold of people so that they vote for the only name they don't know. Most voters in the 7th aren't aware Cantor has an opponent.
Nevertheless, Waugh's car was heavily vandalized the other night, and I don't think that was the first time. Cantor needed some sort of incident on his side, I guess, the fear of the violent questioner.
I anticipate the day, possibly very soon, when some jackass will go straight from American Idol, or some other mind-numbing program, to President of the United States...http://coyotesings.wordpress.com/
How come they didn't shoot the guy, like we do in our outer colonies?
Wow. It reminds me of the meteoric rise of Aryan political star 'dolphie Hitler in the blockbuster smash. "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." All facilitated by the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing brutality of the SA Brown Shirts. Here's a trivia question for the TP thugs: What happened to the Brown Shirts after Hitler became chancellor? Anyone?
Let's just say, as far as 'doplhie was concerned, the SA had outlived its usefullness, which did not bode well for the political tools of the Third Reich. They literally knew where the bodies were buried.
Hey TP thugs, soon you are likely to enjoy your own Night of the Long Knives. Should be a real hoot to see the video on that one.
Oh look... another demonstration of the criminalization of dissent. Just like the girl who had her head stomped on at a Rand Paul event. Or the reporter in Alaska manhandled by security goons at a another Rethug/Tea Party event.
Are you seeing a pattern yet folks?
The Rethug/Tea Party can commit all the violence it wants, free and clear. While legitimate protest is left to piss and moan in the wind.

I think someone should edit this video and put the police in German Brown Shirt uniforms or uniforms of Police in Honduran Uniforms. It all seems the same in Human rights abuses just different uniforms. Welcome to a long dark age everyone.
This whole thing was obviously Jon Taylor's fault. I mean, didn't someone clue him in that you have to buy your free speech before you try to use it or unfortunate incidents like this will happen? What a rube to actually believe he could speak at all, let alone out of turn, in our free country without pre-paying for his free speech. The Fascist goons were simply doing thier jobs of shutting up non-monied speakers. Well done pigs!
"When fascism comes to America..." Wait a minute. It already HAS come to America.
I am surprised that noone has yet commented that the one cop gives new illustration to the term "pig"
P.I.G. Paid Intimidation Guerilla
Fascism
I justed rewatched "Seven Days in May" that I had recorded from TCM. The movie, with a great star cast, was made in 1964. The movie is relevant today - it is about an attempted military coup here in the US by a facist wing of the military with allies in Congress.
Oh Hell, Another lunch counter not safe for Democrats. Shades of the sixties,or should that be the thirties? They were wearing brown.
Just one more example how out of control the far right is. Mr. Taylor had every right to be at this gathering, regardless of his political views. Do the police officers work for this city or Eric Cantor? Seems like a real conflict at the least!
