Wikileaks Files Show 'Truth' On Iraq: Assange
LONDON -- WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange said Saturday that hundreds of thousands of classified US military documents leaked by the website showed the 'truth' on the Iraq war.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange speaks during a news conference about the internet release of secret documents about the Iraq War, in London October 23, 2010. Wikileaks released nearly 400,000 classified U.S. files on the Iraq war on Friday, some detailing gruesome cases of prisoner abuse by Iraqi forces that the U.S. military knew about but did not seem to investigate.
REUTERS/Luke MacGregor "This disclosure is about the truth," Assange told a news conference in London after WikiLeaks released 400,000 documents which give a grim snapshot of the Iraq war, including showing the abuse of Iraqi civilians by Iraqi security forces.
"The attack on the truth by war begins long before war starts and continues long after a war ends," Assange added. Profile of the WikiLeaks founder
"We hope to correct some of that attack on the truth that occurred before the war, during the war and which has continued on since the war officially concluded."
WikiLeaks' spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson told the same news conference that it would also soon release a further batch of 15,000 secret files on the war in Afghanistan.
The heavily redacted files released Friday contain graphic accounts of torture, civilian killings and Iran's hand in the Iraq war, giving a grisly picture of years of blood and suffering following the 2003 US invasion to oust Saddam Hussein.
The Iraqi government said the documents "did not contain any surprises". Related article: Wikileaks files held 'no surprises'
Many of the documents, which span from January 2004 to December 2009, chronicle claims of abuse by Iraqi security forces, while others appear to show that US troops did nothing to intervene to stop the abuse.
The documents comprise the second such release from the controversial website, which accused the United States of "war crimes" and earlier released some 92,000 similar secret military files detailing operations in Afghanistan.
WikiLeaks made the files available to selected newspapers and TV channels and then, just before their publication, invited journalists for a three-hour lock-in preview in London. Facts about WikiLeaks
In one report, US military personnel describe detainee abuse by Iraqis at a facility in Baghdad that is holding 95 detainees in a single room where they are "sitting cross-legged with blindfolds, all facing the same direction."
It says "many of them bear marks of abuse to include cigarette burns, bruising consistent with beatings and open sores... according to one of the detainees questioned on site, 12 detainees have died of disease in recent weeks."
Other reports describe Iraqis beating prisoners and civilian women being killed at US military checkpoints.
The Guardian newspaper said the leak showed "US authorities failed to investigate hundreds of reports of abuse, torture, rape and even murder by Iraqi police and soldiers whose conduct appears to be systematic and normally unpunished."
It added that "more than 15,000 civilians died in previously unknown incidents," going on to say that "US and UK officials have insisted that no official record of civilian casualties exists but the logs record 66,081 non-combatant deaths out of a total of 109,000 fatalities."
The Guardian said WikiLeaks is thought to have obtained the electronic archive from the "same dissident US army intelligence analyst" who leaked 90,000 logs about the war in Afghanistan this year. WikiLeaks has not revealed its source.
Al-Jazeera concluded that major findings of the leaked papers included a US military cover-up of Iraqi state-sanctioned torture and "hundreds" of civilians deaths at manned American checkpoints.
On Iran's role in the conflict, the secret US files show Tehran waging a shadow war with US troops in Iraq, with a firefight erupting on the border and Tehran allegedly using militias to kill and kidnap American soldiers.
The documents describe Iran arming and training Iraqi hit squads to carry out attacks on coalition troops and Iraqi government officials, with the elite Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps suspected of playing a crucial role, the Times and the Guardian reported, citing the files.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned "in the most clear terms" the leaks of any documents putting Americans at risk, while the Pentagon warned that releasing secret military documents could endanger US troops and Iraqi civilians.
Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said the documents were "essentially snapshots of events, both tragic and mundane, and do not tell the whole story."
A spokesman for the Iraqi rights ministry said: "The report did not contain any surprises, because we had already mentioned many things that happened, including at Abu Ghraib prison, and many cases involving US forces."

Show AllYou forgot to mention that the US is a violator of the non-proliferation treaty. The treaty compels the US to help Iran develop nuclear power but the US is doing the opposite. The treaty compels the US to reduce its nuclear weapons. It is modenizing them instead. Iran is in full compliance, the Us is derelict.
I'll grant that Iran creates a obstacle to the global 'banksters' due to their financial policies, and may be "the antithesis of [our] Western approach to debt-based slavery", but as a person with a couple Iranian friends and a fair knowledge of Persian/Iranian culture too, I can tell you that the Islamic Republic is no progressive paradise... far from it. And I hope you'd agree, their government, with its Supreme Leaders, morality police, its rigged elections.... its no ideal model for America – that is, unless you're looking for Christian Evangelism to take over here completely (obviously, I joke).
No question, our rapacious system based on debt and interest is a scourge to our planet and our species (as well as all the others). We have no choice if we're to survive the coming centuries other than to adopt a better model... there you and I will have no disagreement. But outside of certain fiscal policies they employ, Iran doesn't cut it for me as the basis for that model.
Regarding 9-11, I think the momentum provided by the 'Architects & Engineers for 9-11 Truth'
http://www.ae911truth.org
has been some of the more encouraging to date. There was an earlier point made that J.Assange should steer clear of this issue to avoid the unnecessary controversy, but how can *anyone* deny the validity of their arguments? Why wait? The issues are too concrete at this point to continue ignoring.
I'm sure you are more than familiar them Justice Arcs, but for any others reading still in doubt, please visit their site and familiarize yourself.

This has now become another "truther distraction".
OK...you accused me of wanting to believe in the "official explanation", but most thinking people think that the official answer leaves out how Bush cut the investigation of all potential hijackers before 9/11.
You guys don't have the guts to point that out with your real names like others who go after the real secrets instead of this crazy Truther crap that gets the funding question off the table by decaring insanely that the whole operation was drones and remote controlled planes, while this crazy false distraction if true, means that you are the Bush Gang protectors now with no no need to hold anyone responsible for funding hijackers that don't exist or are "still alive".
This is what I get as the real answer behind Truther Propaghanda.
I am looking for real truth and that is why I have no time for these proven distractions that you try to sell as "Science".
So why don't you call for an international investigation of 9/11 and the war crimes from it.
Iran is doing that.... join Iran if you have the guts.
I support Iran's call for a real investigation.
The Truthers now after being debunked on every aspect of the Demolition of 3 buildings theory are pushing the "thermite in the dust".
http://www.debunking911.com/
Thermite does not explode it fizzes and it is made of aluminum and a oxide usually Iron.
Now there was a lot of aluminum and steel in the construction of those buildings and in the planes that hit the towers.
So now truthers show a photo of a small red piece of something without any aluminum in it or around it and you say viola this is the unexploded explosive that brought down the 3 buildings.... if you believe this, GREAT!
The problem your group has is the rest of the world thinks you don't have a real clue because you can get away with saying anything as 'Proof" or "Scientific"
Frankly I don't believe there is any government explanation as to why they could not prevent it without the help of Bush protecting his CIA bankster/saudi connections... the real deal behind the war and you guys can't even blow up a tin can with your "thermite/thermate".... Sorry, but I don't buy any of it and this might be the real reason your "gate keepers" or media targets, including wikileaks are not going to push your stories.
Too bad with all your Science talk, you cannot prove a thing about what your supposed nano thermite did in the buildings.
So lets look at nano thermite.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nano-thermite
"Super-thermite electric matches developed by LANL can create simple sparks, hot slag, droplet, or flames as thermal-initiating outputs to ignite other incendiaries or explosives.[1]
[edit]Hazards
Like conventional thermite, super thermite usage is hazardous due to the extremely high temperatures produced and the extreme difficulty in smothering a reaction once initiated. Additionally, with nanothermites, composition and morphology are important variables for safety. For example, the variation of layer thickness in energetic nanolaminates can allow control of the reactivity of it.[7]
The thermite reaction releases dangerous ultra-violet (UV) light requiring that the reaction not be viewed directly, or that special eye protection (for example, a welder's mask) be worn."
--------
Now after all these years the truthers should be able to demonstrate to me how this was done to 3 buildings on 9/11.
Accusing me spreading "COINTELPRO disinfo", shows how imaginative you are.
If we don't agree with you we are shills or worse and this characteristic of the truthers is why you are not proving a thing you are promoting.
Can we at least agree that there were Hijackers and real airliners on 9/11?
Since you started with the "Free fall" fallacy, My proof about the supposed "free fall" is that the debris that was pushed aside with tremendous force when the top of the towers fell through the blown out holes from the airliners and fires, that debris hit the ground before and while the main part of the towers were still falling.
Everyone can see the debris push aside from the top caving in and then spread out like a mushroom and still fell faster than the body of the towers.
Now you say "That you cut out most of the "high explosive" portions of the wikipedia article on nanothermite, is proof of your deceptive approach. I wonder why that happened ?"
I don't know that I cut anything important out but the whole link is there is it not?
If you have proof that super "high explosive" thermite was found in all the dust I would like to see that.
So far I have seen a photo (last year) of a small red chip and it was broke in two according to professor Jones who found the chip. How one broke a molecular sized chip, he did not explain but he made hand motions like it was done with his fingers like I would break a vitamin pill.
Usually there is a chain of custody and the burden of proof is on the ones accusing, but if you have proof that military "high explosive" thermite was found in all the dust I would like to see it... So can you prove what you are saying?
I would need more than a photo of a red chip that was said to be in the dust....
there was plenty of iron and aluminum in the buildings and in the airplanes that hit the towers... steel rusts faster than Iron and hi heat causes steel to oxidize also... so finding some Aluminum and iron oxide in the dust would be natural.
Thank You
"Can we at least agree that there were Hijackers and real airliners on 9/11?"
I have seen no evidence of Highjackers, so see no reason to believe it
As far as airliners, well.. They exist, but I have seen no evidence that it was the same airliners that hit the WTC as are claimed by the government, and no evidence suggesting that an airiner ever impacted the pentagon.
Let's hold the government to the same standard of evidence that we hold the "truthers" to, shall we?
JUSTICE: Thank you for your BRAVE, humanitarian, and often inspired posts.
Lately I notice a division where TWO AMERICAS blames progressives for the state of the working class.
Right wing media also, coincidentally, is trying to blame progressives (and liberals) for the state of the nation.
Some in this forum have blamed those who voted for Nader for the corrupted state of the nation.
And here we have Jim trying to make "The truthers" into the ones who lower the level of discourse, blemish the quest for the truth, and therefore are to be blamed for staining The Left.
Divide and conquer is alive and doing its utmost to project us all into our own psychic spin cycles so that unity becomes impossible.
With so many principled persons cast as the enemy, how can the higher understanding become not only deseminated, but recognized by enough citizens to make a difference, a ground swell? Attacking those on the front lines of radical, meaningful change means taking up the weapons of those that represent the force that thwarts our efforts.
Quite a few articles have been published about the THOUSANDS now employed to spy on fellow citizens. Right wing organizations seem to have access to the unlimited wealth of their sponsors, and would target a site like this one.
It is a challenging task to separate those who genuinely hold pro-establishment opinions from those who use these to create enmity, suspicion, and divisiveness. Either way, such efforts & attitudes allow the corrupt to retain their dark, deranged hold on power... while the nation urges at breakspeed into the bottomless abyss.

but i did stumble upon an interesting question.

I do not think the issue with Iran is as much as not issuing "debt based Currncy" as it is in attempting to set up a Bourse wherein Oil sold in Currencies that are NOT the US dollar.
The other issue is Iran is still outside the Orbit of the United States Military while sitting on reserves of Natural Gas and Oil.
The USA , the EU and The United Kingdom will have to be buying more and more Energy from Overseas (US will soon drop to under 35 percent produced domestically) and the WAR is on to find out whether it will still be sold in US Currency. Once an Iran is seen as profiting more by selling in the Euro or some other currency then say a Saudi Arabia or an Iraq other countries might follow suit.
As far as progressiveness inside Iran itself. It my feeling that the Conflict wiith the West and being branded as a "Pariah State" gives power to the Fundamentalists. Indeed fundamentalism is a natural reaction to such. Now it a Fact that the Old British Empire used to encourage Fundamentalism inside the Middle East so as to make those regions easier to control. IE The Muslim Brotherhood was founded with the Blessings of the British Empire to counter Nationalism inside of Egypt.
The British Empire welcomed the fundamentalist movement inside of Iran and Egypt and helped to encourage it. The US Empire IMHO needs Iran as a "fundamentalist" state to help fuel the need for their own war machine.
If it walks like a duck.....
These wars ARE crimes against humanity ! This guy is only showing the diary of a War that is without question immoral, and a shameful crime.I have read a great deal of these transactions between soldiers, and written accounts of daily actions, and they are not fake. Even the Pentagon does not question their authenticity.
I suppose you don't believe in global warming either, or the fact of how many years we have really been on Earth, not some insestual fairy tail ! I don't claim to know it all, but building 7 should not have imploded that was a set-up. A 5th grader can see that. Just plane physics will tell you that was impossible.
Justice Arcs
I have been painfully reading through this thread, and your eminently reasonable logical conclusions on what is going on in the Wiki-Leaks case, particularly the completely unnecessary Iran plug without the context of what was happening in 2004-2006, and on the miraculous PHYSICS in the official 9/11 "report"(fairy tale),and the grief you are getting for stating your positions with clearly understandable logical steps. Unfortunately, and I say this with much experience not only on CD but on other "liberal" American blogs, the average American liberal is a scientific Luddite and also unconsciously racist in that he/she is Eurocentric and has no clue about Asian history, especially about the Middle-East, zero knowledge about the geography and absolutely no respect or appreciation of their cultures and ANCIENT civilizations except tidbits picked up here and there to appear politically correct in pluralistic company. So when you made a reference to the CIA's anti- Mossadeg Counter Revolution and installing the Shah in 1952 in an earlier post, which would be instantaneously obvious to anybody paying attention to your qualifying clause of "50 years", somebody jumped in arms flailing ready to slap you silly because that person thought (on what basis I am not going to guess)that you were blaming Murkans for Khomeini's revolution! Jeez.
Now if you notice on the French workers strikes article and thread yesterday, a lot of the literati on CD jumped in reeling off French literary names because the average American liberal, unlike his European (French especially), is Eurocentric. In Contrast, the Sorbonne is one of the leaders on Iranian civilization and Iranians originally spoke French as their preferred European language (e.g Mossadeg himself). Khomeini stayed in Paris for years. But again even here, the Ludditeness of the posters showed up because nobody mentioned the name of some of the greatest names in the sciences and mathematics in post Enlightenment France who were responsible for removing religious funadmentalism in France pre and post Revolution. Laplace who for all practical purposes removed the agency of the divine from classical mechanics, Lagrange without whom a large part of Physics and Economics would be dead, Poisson who developed probability theory with Laplace, Cauchy, Pasteur, Marie-Curie and others.
Remember what Chomsky said:
"America is the most brainwashed country in the world."
Many of the literary elites on CD believe it's not them who are included in the brainwashing, it's those uncouth Tea Partiers. But the anti-truther movement was begun by the energetic gate-keeping activities of Chomsky and Fisk. Many American liberals, true to their herding and stereotyping instincts, joined that herd of rabble supporting the junk physics of the Official 9/11. Obviously they argued that if Chomsky, who is such a smart guy, a polymath ranging across fields of highly technical science and mathematics/logic/linguistics to political incisiveness claims that the JUNK facts in the 9/11 OFFICIAL story are correct then all the 9/11 skeptics must be wrong. The "wrong" side includes higly trained scientists and police/pilot/military observers whose specialty is flying/CONSTRUCTION/missiles and of the physics of beams, heat etc. So the liberal, Luddite, but literary herd joined with Fisk/Chomsky as pied pipers. Thus whenever 9/11 comes up, even on the solid physics for which no known academy of sciences in the world has endorsed the official story, these herd liberals SHOUT you down as a "crazy" conspiracy theorist.
Therefore, I suspect, a lot of the negative comments you are receiving are from deeply embedded shills, or science know-nothings, or Asian history know nothings or all combined in a convex combination. It is futile for you to engage in rational argument with people whose knowledge base is so poor, whose reasoning skills leave much to be desired, and whose behaviour is that of a typical American brainwashed cow from a herd.
Take my advice and either be a yahoo screaming for war with Ahmedinejad, which will please the deeply embedded shills for you know who, or don't even mention that Iran has been dragged in by Assange into what should be a focus on Iraq. May be by incompetence, but both our antenna picked up some more ulterior motive. The 2004-2006 context was that the American military was repeatedly threatening attacks on Iran, and had begun to engage Sunni/Alquaida linked extermination squads for mayhem an slaughter in Shia neibourhoods at the behest of Saudi Arabia. During this time, Sistani quietly asked the Iranians that they teach the Americans a painful lesson that the Shia Militias (except for the rag tag Sadr bands) had been largely disciplined, cooperative with American and Iraqi central authority, and not brutal like Sunni bombers on Shia mosques largely because of his order to them. That were even 20% of the really well trained Shia militias released to take on the yankees, then with the shoulder fired anti-tank and anti-helicopter and anti-close air support missiles supplied by the Iranian military, they could make short work of the Murkan/Brit forces. They showed that by downing 11 to 15 Apache helicopters and a British transport plane in one week, not to mention several armoured vehicles, much like the Hezbollah did in 2006.
Assange does not provide this context. So he is implicitly making the argument for the warmongers that Iran is dangerous to Iraqi security.
I don't think you or I are saying Assange is a plant. But it looks awfully suspicious that 400,000 documents have no serious revelations of gross massacres such as Falluja etc. They seem sanitized to me, may be not on purpose by Assange himself, but by the redactionists at the Pentagon.
At any rate, good luck to you Justice Arcs. You have lots of patience. I have little patience with North Murkan liberals. They are too primitive in their thinking abilities and knowledge.
A great summary of what goes on.
Well, I would say that US operatives are responsible for the Islamic Revolution in Iran. After Mossadegh's ouster by the CIA and the installment of the Shah, the Ayatollah was the only visible figure that the majority of Iran was able to believe was not completely in the US pocketbook. Much in the same way that the Zionists in The Golden Calf of Israel are responsible for the rise in Hezbollah and Hamas. Action and Reaction and all that physics stuff, ya know?
Chomsy's refusal to face 9-11 is troubling, as it is extremely out of character for him to buy such an official lie. I vacillate between suspecting that either he plays along with it for fear of being COMPLETELY shut out of public eye, and knowing that there is already enough damning information available that it is not needed to convict The Powers That Be, and suspecting that he wants to end his time in this world with some hope (he is getting up there in years, and when I saw him a few months back, he dropped some hints that he may not be around much longer) and that to admit the depth of 9-11 leaves little room for hope.
I do not thing Assange is a "plant" however, from my understanding of how the whole infrastructure of WikiLeaks work, I am of the understanding that he has no way of knowing who his sources are. It would be entirely within the historical operating parameters of the "Intelligence Apparatus" of the US to have a whole department set aside to creating disinfo to "leak" to subvert this system.
I do wish, however that you would not dismiss those whose realm of knowledge does not overlap yours as much. Yes, many people are less informed of Asian history, but I do not think this results so much out of a bias or ethnocentricity as you suggest, but from much more mundane reasons. Arabic and Farsi are much harder for English speakers to learn than European languages as their common roots go much further back. Most of us in "the West" are reliant on translations for our information, and as the case of Amenenjadablah (I cannot spell a name I cannot pronounce) shows, translations can often be a source of mis and dis information. When it comes to specialized scientists, many of us can only trust others (which means picking who to trust) because if we were all to spend our time getting the necessary information to make our own informed conclusions about each of these issues, we would almost have begun to grasp them by the time the next crisis needing detailed knowledge of yet another field hits us.
To put it on a personal level, I decided not to pursue formal training in the "sciences", despite knowing that throughout most of high school, I was at the top of my class in these fields, for the simple reason that I did not wish to unwittingly further the causes of the MIC by doing so (as many scientists who came before me did, much to their dismay - Oppenheimer and Einstein are two glaring examples) Does this make me an inferior person in your view?
No "Luddite" would be on this forum, as it takes a computer to access it.
It should not be "literary versus scientific" that is divide and conquer. Both are necessary approaches. Both should inspire and inform each other, not fight each other. Historically, many scientists have pointed to music as one of the greatest influences and inspirations of their groundbreaking theories. Picasso showed us the theory of Relativity on canvas before Einstein put it into words and formulas. Jonathan Swift described the moons of Mars before any known astronomer even postulated their existence.
I agree with everything you just said...and you said it, very well... except for the Fireman part...very brave, is very brave, and there is room for many brave people ! We need all we can get !
And this folks is our America.
Egged on by the Press, the Reds and Blues argue viciously over mundane social issues while the killing machine they both feed, grinds up people, their cultures and their lands.
This nation absolutely disgusts me.
"Revulsion and disgust are much better than pathetic subservience to, so we can see that things are already "getting better," right ?"
Well, (ha) I'm not sure. Perhaps being in some sorta "blissful ignorance" might be more palatable at this point! But, being beyond the reach now of that choice, yeah, I'll take the R&D over the PS every time.
Blissful Ignorance is the main method of enforcement of pathetic subservience.
Based on Julian Assanges' appearance on Colbert, he had to fly to New York from overseas and gone through security at least twice. His appearance on Colbert was also scheduled. His past disclosures should have at least placed him on a list somewhere and would have been stopped. Any reasonable person doing what Mr. Assange has done would not be so foolish as to come to the US for an appearance on Colbert based on that alone. IMHO his appearances and releases "may" be "perception management" or for other reasons.
Here is Julians invition to the press conference listing the time/date and place of said conference.

There is only one country in the world, Israel, that would have a vested interest in keeping the Middle East in turmoil. Stolen passports and media press releases and computer hacking (thats why I noted that particular hosting service) are part and parcel to that end. How does he fly into other countries undetected by security? I do have a healthy dose of skepticism regarding all of the above. This "leak" seems to serves that end. Qui bono? Israel, MIC or the banks? Remember we were fooled into this mess and war crimes are inexcusable but something here just doesn't add up.

neo-nazi shill alert. do not feed the parasite.
Well, I am not a neo-nazi but I do have a little Native American in me the though. The ad hominem attack proves that I may be on to something. You maybe suffering from a severe case of Ziomemetic Psychosis and should stay away from megaphones. furthermore I shill for no one but do have a few very valid questions.
In other words curiousteve, don't respond to you?
Oops, I fed you.

ps What aesops dog wrote is perfectly on point. Wikileaks certainly appears on the surface to be a God-send to the left, and more than just a thorn in the side of the powers-that-be. But there's no question, some things here do not seem to fully be adding up. So I suggest you wise up, because any *real* 'God-send to the left' is a strange and rare thing in this world, and very difficult to maintain for long. How many more times do we have to get played by the elite's plots and ploys before we start waking up? Trust J.A. only so far as it really changes the equation for the better... As for myself, I'll judge Wikileaks by the fruit it bears, and into who's basket the fruit falls.
I wish you would note what you consider "not adding up". To my knowledge the disclosures Wikileaks passed on from that informant ( currently residing in a military prison awaiting trial by the by) are not only an exposure of the dreadful treatment we and our allies are meting out, but also an exposure of the manipulation of the media and the opinions of the American people by censuring said disclosures to this point.
How, I wonder, does the govt. benefit, as you imply, from Assange's work?
He is allowed to enter the United States. For someone who is as high profile as he is, but with no diplomatic credentials, this is suspicious.
I as well wonder how he benefits the Powers that Be. But that he is allowed entry, when others have been denied entry for far less than he has done, is indeed suspicious.
The release of thousands of documents, blaring a truth long hidden, vs. one man's access to this nation? C'mon, make a real case.
Admission time again?
Oh, well that settles it then?????
Hillary is wrong: the US troops and civilianss in Iraq/Afg/Pak are not endangered. The DANGER is to Hillary-Bush-Obama-Bill Clinton, Colin Powell, et. al., as Wikileak piles up the overwhelming legally admissible evidence of 20 years of Class "A" war crimes and mass murder by US govt officials. It took 40 years to bring the Nazi Klaus Barbie to justice, so Hillary is right to fear the leaks; for herself.
How much exposure has this story received in the corporate media? I haven't seen much.
Assange: " we hope to correct some of that attack on truth ". Now Julian, that attack on truth, will be an attack on you and Wikileaks truth. I see you were already attacked personally on CNN and walked off the interview in disgust. The whore MSM should be attacking the shame of what this government has done in our names, not the messenger.
i just checked out the video. The interviewer seemed like she just graduated from a second rate undergraduate program with a major in t.v. journalism.
She wouldn't give her 'sources' when Julian asked who she was referring to. It turned out to be one guy that CNN interviewed. She had no idea that wasn't a case of needing to protect sources. She was an imbecile.
a few shills are trying to hijack and confuse the iusse.
part of pantagon and cia's disinformation and poison-the-well effort.
Yes yes, everyone who does not thinks as you do works for the Pentagon.
I have no idea who's a "shill" and who isn't. I'm not even sure about particular qualifications for the title, if any. I only know that the real issue should be the actual content of nearly 400,000 pages of documentation and what they reveal about those who were (and still are) involved.
Surely no one seriously thinks that some party really put all that massive content together out of thin air?! But unless one seriously questions its authenticity, which seldom seems to be the case here on any specific credible grounds, everything else is merely distraction. It may or may not be deliberate distraction, but it's no less undesirable regardless of that.
more shilling http://www.veteranstoday.com/2010/10/23/gordon-duff-ho-hum-more-wikileaks-chickenfeed/
When he left the London restaurant at twilight, heading into the shadows, he declined to say where he was going. The man who has put some of the world’s most powerful institutions on his watch list was, once more, on the move. LMAO
I am pretty darn good at 'reading' people, at the risk of sounding less than humble.
And whenever i see Assange speak, i am convinced that he is speaking his truth and has the deepest integrity and intentionality.
That is all i can possibly 'know'. If i don't trust myself, then all the input in the world isn't going to matter, since we are each the arbitor of what we believe, after all is said and done.
I am writing this after reading all of the comments posted.
The very fact that someone found a way to challenge darth vader world is notable, in my book. He shows the world it is doable. That may be the most important impact he is making, since most of what i have read was absolutely no surprise to me. And to be honest, anyone who still supports our atrocities will not be changed by these leaks.
And those of us who have known from the get-go....well. Are you surprised by what you have read? Has it changed your perspective of the horrors you were aware of already?
On the down side, it could well create even more insideous ways of snuffing out all ability to do exactly what WL is doing. But if that were to stop them or anyone else, then we may as well sit in a room and twiddle our thumbs.
My most recent take.
Peace.
Hi again, J.A.,
Honest to goodness i am being as sincere as possible in response to your very thoughtful and considerate post.
I never believed obama from the get go. There was a two day period, after i saw a "debate" he did with H.C., where i thought that he might be for real. That is about it. I even voted Green Party, although i was warned that in PA, that was a dangerous thing to do. I thought that was also propoganda - scare tactic from his campaign. Now. How did i know he was who he turned out to be?
I knew he believed in 'american exceptionalism', based on a 2005 CSPAN booktv video of him speaking at a bookstore in nyc, promoting his book at the time. They showed it during the campaign and i honed in on his emphasis on this stance.
Also, he was promoted by the usual suspects in the media and in the dem. party. How could he possibly *not* be a shill?
I realized that his election would co-opt the pathetic excuse of a peace movement that i had been involved with since we invaded Afghanistan in the first place. And i was right about that.
When i first saw his slogan in print "Change You Can Believe In", i got a very chilling feeling inside. I thought it looked like something right out of Pat Robertson's religious cult. Something really orwellian is what i felt. Honest.
More....I read a piece in the new yorker where people in chicago who were *real* community organizers reflected on their experience with him. He was an anomaly. Never looked back to thank anyone. Never stayed in one place too long and it was obviously being used as a way to get into politics. There was more in there too. Just real people who were talking. Not bashing him and actually wishing him well. They just never encountered someone like him in their arena, and were confounded by his behaviour.
And just one more, although i could go on and on.....He didn't look or sound 'real' to me. How do i describe that? Does Glen Beck look or sound real to you? Turn off the sound and just watch him. That is what i did with obama. There is no depth there. He is a walking campaign ad. Nothing more. And that is what i told people.
Regarding the fraudulent nonsense leading to the first "Gulf War". That was a no brainer for me. I saw through it as soon as it appeared. I can see an actor when an actor is in front of me. I didn't believe the reasons for that 'war' any more than i believed the weapons of mass destruction ruse from bush the younger, et al.
Can i ever be wrong? Of course. But i am good, my friend. Really good. ;-)
Namaste,
rita
I voted for Obama. I argued time and time again that it was 'historical exigency' that would impel him to do the right thing. I honestly believed he was more 'Presidential' than the other candidates, and that his race alone would begin a healing process between the different countries and ethnic divisions of humanity... I had doubts about both his full sincerity, and his experience to effectively lead on day one, but I believed in his ability not only to quickly learn the ropes, but to assess the moral imperative placed before him. I believed the codes he spoke during the election campaign were subtly designed to appease and placate the elite and the media, but he really would turn out to be the scourge of corporate corruption the US desperately needed.
I use the term 'believe' a lot in regard to Obama – Obviously I was needing something to believe in after what I term the 'Bush-ages'. I really did believe that even if the man himself weren't up to it, We The People would provide the moral conscience and sheer historical pressure circumstance required.
I have been cleansed of my false beliefs now. I was pulled in, I ran with the herd and bought the hype...practically crying during the acceptance speech in Chicago.
Perhaps I am a much better judge now, like you Rita – I definitely won't ignore my senses when I detect the subtle undercurrents of rat-scent in the future.
"And whenever i see Assange speak, i am convinced that he is speaking his truth and has the deepest integrity and intentionality."
I also read a very positive energy with Julian Assange, and I hope you're right. I want to believe he is who he says he is, but I think Justice Arcs' arguments have reinforced a number of my own suspicions. Who really can people of conscience believe in any more?!
Cheers,
–SS
As a Canadian I am on the outside looking in. There is a distinct phenomena in Canada wherein a good many people are spellbound by Democratic Presidents and any democratic President simply because they are under the PERCEPTION that Democrats believe in the "Social Good and wlefare of all" as a matter of principle.
They think themsleves as progressives and go Ga Ga over a Clinton or a Barack OBama while chuckling to themselves that any person can voote in a Reagan or a Bush.
In the leadup to that election I had a number of American friends, disgusted with Bush asking me what I thought of the Various Presidential Candidates and in Particular Barack Obama.
I suggested he was a Phony and a worse one then Clinton had been and advised they vote Green or some other party. Virtually all of them ignored that advice. I was not very convincing in my arguements apparently.
In grade 7 8 and 9 we had a "Hippie" teacher. THat is what the old guard labled him. He suggested a number of things to us which were not part of the accepted curriculum such as our duty as citizens to QUESTION everything. It did not mean everything we hear MUST be false but we should simply not accept what the Media or those in Authority tell us. I try to never forget that lesson.
Of course you have to be receptive, so it is your achievement in the end.
Thanks, SS, for a very interesting and authentic response.
I would say Assange seems real. If he is being played by who knows who, this i can't perceive, of course.
His is not a personality that would be invented. He is much too direct and appears to be humble in interviews. He is so on message. I think an operative would 'act' in a way that 'they' would coach him to behave. And there is a way they do come off, when i see it.
Even when Colbert interviewed him, he didn't faulter. He stayed on message. How to explain it? Watch the very short CNN interview from yesterday or today, where he walks off the set. I just 'know'.
I am not saying that J.A. doesn't make worthy observations. And it could work to throw gas on the flames and give the u.s. even more reason to expand the merciless wars and destruction of all shreds of human dignity in our world. True enough. But what is the alternative, really? Say nothing?
As i said on an earlier post, he does give us the idea that there is a way. We need that idea right now. To realize that the power of truth is as powerful as that of darkness. I know that is true. Yet sometimes it is easy for me to forget. And that is precisely what the powers that be want - learned helplessness. The shock doctrine.
One more thing i forgot to mention in my post to J.A. I knew that obama couldn't be the 'saviour', which is what it comes down to, really. This is what everyone was hoping for. The reason i knew this is because no one really learned anything new from the bush years. People believed (in all respect to you), that all they needed to do was go and vote and they would be redeemed. I saw it the way i see a christian going to church on a sunday and feeling that they are absolved of their 'sins'. It is cheap salvation. Way too easy and meaningless.
The day obama was elected, i felt completely alienated and forlorn. My only solace was in an email correspondence i initiated with the editor of the Black Agenda Report, whose name escapes me right now, (although i do know that Glenn is his first or last name.) He completely understood my feelings and we had a meaningful dialogue.
Peace,
rita
J.A: I noticed the "J.A." connection, too. Synchronicity, my friend, synchronicity!
I know what the way is. the way is for enough people to care and see these issues as critical and be ready to protest and seriously protest so that it hurts for everyone including the richest. People have to be aware of what the owners are doing and how it is going to affect them and how unfair this is. But Americans are not even sure it is unfair because they don't understand that the existance of a society is what makes rich people rich. Without it they could make no money. The rich get rich on the resources of a whole people, transport these resources on people paid roads and sell to the people to get their money. They are not gods, they have benefitted from the existance of society and security and freedom. They don't understand that they are entitled to some of the profits of these rich people. in addition, they don't understand that if all the money goes to a few it begins to circulate, and slowly (velocity of money), in ever smaller circles leaving a sea of poverty in the shadow of castles. Feudalism. mONEY MUST BE REDIRECTED FROM THE RICH TO THE POOREST ON A REGULAR BASIS TO KEEP THE SYSTEM GOING.
If you don't it runs out of fuel. They thought they could take that excess money and gamble and win. They lost. Now we have to pay for it.
The question still remains unanswered: WHY DIDN'T "THE HERD" READ OBAMA'S VOTING RECORD before succumbing to mass hysteria???
Hi Justice_Arcs,
(notice i didn't call you J.A. ;-))
I don't really know what Assange has said about 911, so i am not sure about how that connects to his credibility. Can you explain?
It seems that he gets his information from volunteer whistleblowers. If no one has blown a whistle on what went down that day, i don't know that he is an investigative reporter. Or claims to be one. Heck, i would love to see something about what DARPA is up to, on Wikileaks.
And who knows? Maybe he got 911 DISinformation from sources that are trying to make Wikileaks look bad. I don't know that Assange should be held accountable for needing to publish everything that occurs in our reality. I would imagine anyone that is in on anything like the Manhattan Project level of secrecy, may not be into blowing any whistles. My feeling is that he needs to stay within certain limits.
If someone else wants to start their own version of W.L., they can do so, i suppose. And they can publish whatever truths they wish to go after. In my humble opinion, they do what they do, and if it isn't the whole enchilada - well. It is what it is.
Gary Mckinnon was a hacker who the u.s. is trying to make an example of. I am sure you know about his case. Assange isn't hacking regarding W.L. He was getting information sent to him. He doesn't work for the military, (my belief, of course), so he isn't breaking any 'rules'. I think he is a genius of sorts, if you read his background.
Yes, you are far more versed in matters of technology than i am. But in all fairness to you, my friend, that doesn't do you justice, i am certain. Since i am in kindergarten when it comes to all things cyber.
Oh, i didn't answer your direct questions. I just remembered one of them. Sorry about that. You mentioned that he could be sincere about his beliefs , but not have the strength of character to delve deeper into truths. I would say, again in my opinion, he has profound strength of character. No one is perfect. I am sure he has his own weaknesses. No one is a superhero. However, if someone cannot delve too deeply, it is a lack of 'depth' - intellectual and intuitive. Not character. A very simple person can have much character, but that doesn't mean they are 'deep'.
Namaste,
rita
quite right rtt. i have never seen mr. assange speak, but this photo dated 23.10 shows a very different picture from previous ones. i guess the smear campaign/rape allegations/residency denial has taken its toll. and no, i'm not surprised by what i read and my perspection has not changed.............
I can agree with you that My instincts tell me that Assange is being honest with what he says, however, he has admitted that he does not even know who his sources are. Therefore, it is entirely possible that, even though he may have the fabled honesty of George Washington after the cherry tree, the information he is being given could be entirely fictional. He wouldn't be the first person in history to fall for such disinformation. Not by a long shot.
Has it not come to the point where the average thinking literate person using common logic and a little historic perspective has to realise that there is no moral underpinning or truth coming out of any of the institutions of the American government? The British, the French, which one is not alike?
But in this case the point being that the US and its criminal administration is so obviously a terrorist state committing the ultimate war crimes, in terms of wars of aggression in which they have shown no compunction to refrain from any infringement of the Geneva Conventions or any other international laws.
I don’t think they care a toss that these documents are being released. If anything these documents just confirm again to those like me who appose the American regime on the bases of their already proven record that America and its various agencies of coercion and aggression are perfectly capable of any atrocity and of lying about it, calling black white. This is nothing anybody who has had their eyes open in the past didn’t know already. They want me to know what they are. They need an enemy.
It will not make an iota of difference whether a few more self deluded Americans who pretend to be living in a democracy under the rule of law, will have an epiphany and realise that you couldn’t wedge a sheet of paper between the morals and values of Saddam Hussein’s regime and that of the powers behind Bush’s then, or Obama’s today. Since the sheeple that make up that country won’t get off their fat buts even when they are being screwed at home by crooked elections, false flag attacks, economic plunder and financial fraud ….. and they still fall in line behind the their flag and swear allegiance to all the lies it stands for… that nation, indivisible, of people apparently induced to be mentally challenged…. , they are hardly going to get all hot and bothered, jump up and run out into the streets demanding justice when they realizes that their Pentagon and their brave boys are responsible for what any normal human would call war crimes. To most of them it is irrelevant because they think they have enough problems to compete daily to get the slice of the pie they know they deserve and anyway, it’s all about a bunch of Iraqi’s or Afghans who are not “Americans”. The fact that Blackwater (now Xe) kills with impunity, just like the US army, navy and air force or the CIA does, is to so many of these Americans just an accepted norm. The Israeli view of the Palestinians and the rest of the world, for that matter, is a not different nor accidentally parallel to this.
And so we, the world, the victims, are set up for the Orwellian “endless war” with no rules against ever changing phantoms. If anyone out there thinks that there is “peaceful resistance” way to get out of the clutches of this “Big Brother” they should just realise that the enemy is us and we are all Palestinians now.
who do you work for? lemme guess...
