Arab League Demands Gaza Siege End
Amr Moussa, the Arab League secretary-general, has called for an end to Israel's siege on the Gaza Strip.
"This blockade...must be lifted and must be broken and the Arab
League decision is very clear in this regard," he said on Sunday. He told reporters at the Rafah crossing point that Arab
governments should help in implementing the Arab League resolution that
seeks to end the siege. Moussa
reached the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing shortly before
10:00am (0700 GMT) where he was welcomed by members of Gaza's ruling
Hamas movement, as well as representatives of various Palestinian
groups. He crossed into the enclave from Egypt, two weeks after Israel's
deadly interception of a Gaza aid flotilla that was intended to deliver
humanitarian aid to the territory. Palestinian reconciliation At a joint news conference with Moussa shortly after his arrival,
Basim Naeem, the Hamas health minister, said the visit indicated that
"the boycott between Gaza and the Arab nation was broken". Egypt had kept its border with Gaza largely closed, bolstering
Israel's embargo, since Hamas seized control of the Strip from
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah forces in 2007. But Cairo eased restrictions at its Rafah crossing with the
territory after Israeli marines killed nine pro-Palestinian Turkish
activists during violent confrontations on the Turkish-flagged aid
convoy on May 31. Palestinian and Arab League officials said Moussa's visit was also
aimed at giving momentum to reconciliation talks between Hamas and
Fatah. Egypt has sponsored the talks but they have failed to bridge
deep mistrust between the two rivals. Moussa, however, said he had not come to Gaza to give support to any
political faction, but to meet the Palestinian people of the territory. Ismail Haniya, Hamas's leader in Gaza, said he hoped that Moussa's
visit would result in practical measures to end the siege on Gaza.

Moussa's
comments came immediately after he arrived in the Gaza Strip, his first
visit to the territory since Israel's imposition of a crippling
blockade in 2006.

Show AllMore Arabs in suits demanding things they have no intention of enforcing. Wake me when they do something besides pocket Uncle Sam's cash on the downlow.
Corvo:
What you say is dead on. Both the Arab League and the Organization of Islam Countries have nothing but empty words. Better they just shut the @*$% up.
Oh you smart ass Amr Moussa, a cowardly pimp who has now jumped on the bandwagon when its "safe" to come out so openly against the Gaza blockage. Where were you Oh Amr when the white phosphorus was raining down on the women and children of Gaza? Where were you and your lousy Arab League when the dismembered parts of children were posted on websites and families were killed with the weapons that the US provides? Where was your bravery then? Its a pathetic and typical response from a group of self inflated pompous Arabs who have done so little for "the Cause." As a Palestinian I spit on you and your Arab League. I hope the people of Gaza put you in your place.
Terry Scott knows what he is talking about for sure
I still wonder, how many packs a day Obama is doing now.
Yeah really, where was the Arab League? I believe they were hiding and being very careful not to offend their rabid neighbor, the one that has the ability to reach out and touch you. The one that takes billions of dollars from the USA in the form of advanced communications technology, hellfire missiles, warships, anti-personnel explosives, jet fighter bomber aircraft and attack helicopters any and or all of which will be used against any offender for little to no reason. Aside from that, about the following statement.
"Hamas seized control of the Strip from Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah forces in 2007."
now we all know that is a bullshit, there was an election, it was monitored by international observers, there was no argument regarding the outcome, Hamas was elected fair and square. AND we all know how corrupt Abbas was then and is today.
Can we ask the editors for fair treatment of history?

What happened to CD's Video of the IDF beating & shooting a Flotilla passenger?
The following story was on CD yesterday morning but dissappeared.

CD has gotten a little queasy in the last six months or so.
Lost interest in checking in every day.
do you know that the united states' government actually pays people to read our postings? though i have a brand new computer that cost me well over $1200.00, it seems that just about every time that i am in the middle of a 300 word post, the script just disappears, and another common dreams editorial soon emerges on my screen. anyone else having problems like that? it just happened again, though this time i was able to retrieve my post. here goes.
Apparently I'm not worth messing with.
A text editor does save me from my usual finger-failure errors, though usually persistent back-spacing and looking for drafts of posts works.
If you find reason to believe you have attracted attention, though, back up double to sources not connected to the Net, so that it is harder for one attack to trash two drives.
1. I think if you were being spied on, they wouldn't be as obvious about it. they'd spy on you at the ISP level - those folks (ATT comes to mind) have been very cooperative with the homeland crews.
It looks like a computer problem - I hope your guarantee still applies.
**2. I also wonder - all the victims of the IDF raid on the Mavi Marmara were Turks or of turkish heritage - anybody notice that? Were there other ships with Turkish names? Did they all sail under different flags?
I know all of the good folks on those ships were roughed up, but only Turks were killed? and only on a ship with a Turkish name? Does it look more like a raid on Turkey than on the humanitarian fleet? Maybe it's a message about the Turkey-Syria-Iran alliance?
egypt should renounce its alliance with israel and form an alliance with turkey. then the arabs would have the leverage to force israel to act reasonably. the only reason carter and begin were at camp david was to bribe sadat to take egypt out of the military equation, thus freeing israel to do what it wished with the weaker states like lebannon and the occupied territories. of course, congress would immediately halt the flow of arms and money to egypt, which would weaken mubarak's hold over his people.
But that's exactly what Egypt won't do. Mubarak needs the $1.8 billion he gets annually from the United States for being pals with Israel; most of the money is spent on, or provided as, arms with which he maintains power against his own population.
He's not going to cut out the safety net from under him, because without it the Muslim Brotherhood would treat him the same way he's been treating it.
We pay Egypt to uphold their treaty with Israel.
Believe that shit?
Israel costs us billions coming and going.
Bring America Back !!!!
***Perhaps if Moussa holds his breath until he turns blue, then the Zionists would stop the blockade, or would they just measure him up for size of casket?
***Same issue as Terry below; if 9 dead peace activists impressed Egypt to loosen its border for Gazans, then why did not 1500 dead Gazans, including 400 innocent children, impress Egypt in January 2008 ??
***If Egypt is so willing, why cannot the flotillas turn into truck caravans of needed food and supplies and come
thru the same border that Moussa just came thru???
This is all too easy, I guess, trucks instead of boats.
Something is happening in the world, but it's only a few small voices at the moment. You know what they say:
A commando team blasts its rifles into a flotilla and a tsunami shows up in Germany.
It appears that Germany is seeking extradition from Poland for a person going by the name of Uri Brodsky. Was he part of the mossad group that murdered Mahmoad al- Malhouh (not sure of the spelling) in Dubai?
I saw a tiny news article, somewhere yesterday, and now I can't find it, nor do I find mention elsewhere.
Is the world community responding to blowback, or is it collateral damage, from the flotilla murders? It's hard to say, but it appears that various countries of the world are being more ethical than either the U.S. or the Israeli government.
All the world stage is a player, and sovereign nations are ditching the script and creating their own parts. PEACE, America and Israel , comes through ensemble playing , and "stars" are no longer on the playbill.
Theatre of Diplomacy? Oh, much better than the Theatre of War.
Wonder which is more useless. The African Union or the Arab League. The paradox of these so called leaders is that the more acceptable they are the less independent and less accountable they are to their populations and the more they are treated with hostility by the west the less control the west has over them. They hate Mugabe, I love Mugabe. The hate Ahmedinijad, I love Ahmedinijad. They Love Tutu, I dont trust slippery Tutu. They love Mandela, I am very suspicious of Mandela. Its that simple. Since when did the West look out for 3rd world nations. History has always been my guide. Call it the illiterate's insight. Not clouded by high falutin jargon BS. Keep it simple
I hope the siege of Gaza is not ended like the U.S. siege of Iraq ended, with another preemptive "shock and awe" bombing and continued military occupation.
Amr Moussa, a mouse that's now roaring.
