Iran Signs Nuclear Fuel Swap Deal With Turkey and Brazil
Iran has signed a nuclear fuel swap deal to ship 1,200 kilos of low enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for nuclear fuel for a Teheran reactor.
The agreement was signed in the Iranian capital between the foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Brazil after three-way talks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Iran inked a nuclear deal Monday under which 1,200 kilos of low enriched uranium will be shipped to Turkey, potentially ending a standoff with world powers gearing for new sanctions against Tehran. (AFP/File/Behrouz Mehri) Under the agreement "Turkey will be the place to keep Iran's 3.5 per cent (low enriched) uranium," foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters. "One thousand two hundred kilos (of LEU) will be exchanged."
He added that Iran will officially notify the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the agreement "within a week."
"The IAEA should inform the Vienna group (United States, France and Russia) of this proposal," he said of world powers which have wanted Iran since last October to accept a UN-backed deal to ship its enriched uranium abroad.
Israel, which along with many Western powers suspects Iran is using its nuclear enrichment programme to mask a drive for atomic weapons, immediately accused Teheran of "manipulating" Turkey and Brazil over the deal.
"The Iranians have manipulated Turkey and Brazil in appearing to accept the enrichment of part of their uranium on Turkish soil," a senior Israeli official in Jerusalem said.
There was no immediate reaction from the IAEA, which had in its proposal suggested Iran send its uranium stockpile to Russia to be further enriched and then on to France to make nuclear fuel for a research reactor in Teheran.
Iran had stalled, insisting it wants to keep the LEU on its own soil for a simultaneous swap with reactor fuel.
Following news of the deal, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for fresh talks with major powers over the country's disputed nuclear programme.
"Following the signing of the nuclear fuel swap deal, it is time for 5+1 countries to enter talks with Iran based on honesty, justice and mutual respect," he said.

And your evidence of this manipulation is?
Israel just called Turkey and Brazil stupid, gullible and easy to be "manipulated." And that's what happens to liars when they run out of new darkness to force the light to give way, they get exposed by new light in a big way.
In other words: "US & Israel, go f*ck yourselves."
Wow, a chance to solve our economic woes. It looksd like we have just cause to start a "pre-emtive war against Brazil, Turkey and Iran. Where are Bush and Cheney when we need em?
"Where are Bush and Cheney when we need em?"
worry not! Identical replacements are in place, the MIC is as ready and willing as always, the agenda remains the same: world hegemony.
Iran has a noble goal, to stop the U.S. and Europe from using Israel as a tool to plunder the Middle East, and to do it without using deadly force.
Now what would happen if Iran, Turkey and Brazil were to give Egypt more billions in aid then it gets from the US? Then the power combine would increase to a big four, and add just a couple more power houses to that and our Empire’s days of terrorizing the Middle East would come to an end.
>>The Iranians have manipulated Turkey and Brazil in appearing to accept the enrichment of part of their uranium on Turkish soil," a senior Israeli official in Jerusalem said
Which helps show EXACTLY what trhis about. It was never about Uranium Enrichment. The West has been demanding that Iran turn over all of its uranium to other states so they can enrich it for fuel and then return it.
Iran has agreed to do so.
Israel now wants to move the golaposts one more.
This in spite of the fact Iran has the legal RIGHT to enrich its own uranium under the NPT, which Israel is not a part of.
Hilary "I want sanctions then war" Clinton continues to spout her nonsense that Iran is being "Obstructive" in its negotiations.
Turkey recently announced it was moving Anti Air systems and aircraft closer to the border with Iran. They claimed this was to ensure Turkish airspace was not used to launch a strike against Iran.
Russia announced it would proceed with selling air defense systems to Iran and also indicated it would help Syria increase its own defesne grid with more modernized systems. Israel has already attacked Syria in defiance of international law.
Anyone with half a brain knows full well that Israel is the "Rogue State" in the region and the region most responsible for all the conflicts and instability. Israel will do all in its power to "manipulate" other nations into attacking Iran even if it means a "false flag".
PROVE ME WRONG
(1) There is no reliable proof that Israel has nuclear weapons. Therefore Israel most likely has no nuclear weapons.
(2) Israel was created by Europe and war materials funded by the U.S., therefore Israel is just a puppet and colony of Europe and the US.
(3) When Middle East oil runs out, Israel will be deserted by Europe and the US.
(1) There is no reliable proof that Israel has nuclear weapons. Therefore Israel most likely has no nuclear weapons.

VANUNU'S PHOTOS OF DIMONA - 1985
http://www.vanunu.com/uscampaign/photos.html
Hollywood for a movie could produce photos just as authentic. And look at all the "authentic" photos on the passports of the 26 Israeli agents who assonated the Hamas leader in Dubai.
All we have is one man’s word who claims to be an eye witness. Darkness is a pretense of good hiding misery, let us not be suckered into darkness and misery.
You are entitled to your own darkness and light and both are essential to life and the universe.
It is an open secret and that means the truth is hidden...or do you think that governments only tell the truth?
Read this if you don't get what a public secret is.

/guide/israel/nuke/
For a rogue nation a public secret is to their advantage because nobody can legally snoop on them or inspect them if they don't admit it but the belief that they have it secretly, gives them advantage in any conflict.
The passport scandal was uncovered almost immediately following the hit on the Hamas official. The Dimona pictures have held up for the last 25 years.
Until the IAEA is allowed to inspect Dimona Vanunu's pictures are more than compelling evidence that Israel is a nuclear power. It'd be foolish to think or act otherwise.
The National Security Archive has all kinds of info about the Jewish Nuke. Here's a link to just one hit of hundreds when a search is made, http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB189/index.htm
Header announcement: "Washington, DC, April 28, 2006 - Today the National Security Archive publishes for the first time 30 recently declassified U.S. government documents disclosing the existence of a highly secret policy debate, during the first year of the Nixon administration, over the Israeli nuclear weapons program. Broadly speaking, the debate was over whether it was feasible--either politically or technically--for the Nixon administration to try to prevent Israel from crossing the nuclear threshold, or whether the U.S. should find some "ground rules" which would allow it to live with a nuclear Israel. The documents published by the Archive are the primary sources for an article by Avner Cohen and William Burr, "Israel crosses the threshold," that appears in the May-June 2006 issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. The article is now available on-line at the Bulletin's Web site. An edited version of the article will also appear in The Washington Post's Sunday "Outlook" section on April 30, 2006."
As I've said many times, one can learn a whole lot by surfing the National Security Archive's website, which includes the plans for the USA to attack its own people in order to create a war with Cuba: Operation Northwoods, http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/news/20010430/
I think you are incredibly naive.
The proof of that is your insistence that Israel is not wagging the dog, when it very obviously is.
Try spending some time in the Middle East--maybe that will give you a bit more insight into how things work.
When I see stories like this I feel proud for Iran--CONGRATULATIONS! Way to go--And when is Israel signing up with NPT so we can get inspectors in there for regular inspections. Inspections are crucial to globally insure all earthlings that the planet is safe and secure. Moreover, it is a key ingredient for a successful outcome in every operation or venture.
Our own Gulf is now in peril because these steps were allowed to be avoided--we must never assume anything when it concerns the health of our environment--we must protect it against this very kind of piggishly perpetrated plunder.
We should all understand the showdown between the U.S. and Iran – like the prior showdown that led to war with Iraq – is not so much about any potential weapons program but about power. In a world that is 100% dependent on oil for survival, that country, which has a surplus of oil will have power and that country with a deficit supply of oil will not. Unless, the deficit country plays unfair.
Iran, a major oil producer and one of the largest countries in the area, is naturally going to have and want influence in the region. This is what the US and Israel fear and is what motivates all we do in the Middle East. We will continue to do everything in our dwindling power to sink every effort of Iran to join the global community.
Wealthy NGOs, like the Heritage Foundation have for some time been waging a lying propaganda war against Iran. It is obviously designed to sway the American public into hating Iran to get our backing in their efforts to weaken and even destroy Iran, inorder that once again - the US will be the reigning power in the world.
You and I see that perfectly clear, and so perhaps do all those who take an interest in the conflict. The corruption of our Empire is exposed for all to see on this issue.
The outcome of it all, surely its much too close to call for me.
JUST OUT -- EUROPE RESPONSE
“It does not solve the fundamental problem, which is that the international community has serious concerns about the peaceful intention of the Iranian nuclear program," Maja Kocijancic, the EU spokeswoman, said.
Herman Van Rompuy, the president of the EU, said earlier on Monday that Europe is "very concerned" about the program."
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2010/05/2010517134649831836.html
And why are European leaders not concerned about the Israeli nuclear program?
Is it because Europe uses Israel to terrorize the Middle East into submission?
This is not the best time to start ragging on Brazil--which just discovered another enormous offshore petroleum deposit last week.
Lula has consciously worked to create a leadership position for Brazil on the global playing field.
It's the hour of the folks with the resources, not the folks who squander them. The US is soooooooo over.
Again, there's a news blackout on this development imposed by the USA's Propaganda System. Even this UK-press item is incorrect because it doesn't tell thenwhole story, which we would expect: "Iran had stalled, insisting it wants to keep the LEU on its own soil for a simultaneous swap with reactor fuel."
This development also signals Iran doesn't trust Russia and has found new partners.
No, The enrichment and loading into fuel rods was supposed to be done by France, Iran does not trust France because of Iran’s experience of prior cooperation with international actors on its nuclear program has been disappointing. During the 1970s, Iran invested more than $1 billion to build a French reactor which was contractually supposed to guarantee Iran access to that reactor’s fuel. But, when the Islamic Republic was established, France reneged. With the IAEA deal Iran was being called on to trust France, yet again, to return its fuel.
The deal broke down because Iran required a swap, LEU for fuel rods. Pretty reasonable one might think but Russia and France said, “send us all the fuel and then receive the rods "later".
The important point is that this fuel is required for a reactor one of the very few in the world for isotopes for medical treatments for thousands of patients, in Iran and the whole Persian Gulf area.
If the "international community" is really worried that Iran has other intentions, why not take up Iran’s offer to negotiate and create a Nuclear Arms Free middle east, or is it just too difficult to include Israel in that deal, or keep US, British and French vessels carrying nuclear arms out of ME waters? Which of these countries is serious about preventing nuclear proliferation and undertaking nuclear disarmament?
Turkey and Brazil are helping a peaceful settlement and defeating those hell-bent on another war.
Even though Iran's small medical "research" reactor is old and somewhat rickety it is today critical for the production of certain medical radioisotopes now that the Dutch reactor in Petten is transiently closed for repairs. If you are a person who needs a radioisotope for heart/artery problems send a thank-you note to the presidents of Turkey and Brazil and, if you did in 2008, do not vote for Mr. Obama ever again.
Bill. Of course you are correct which demonstrates the insanity of forbidding the export of medical isotopes from Iran to Europe/North America. I understand that the Petten reactor, even after repairs is still not the most reliable, up-to-date reactor and might need more upgrading in the near future. I understand that a major medical calamity will develop should that reactor go out of business for an extended period of time. And it is not the reactor at Petten alone that must be in operating condition because the radio isotopes produced in it are separated electromagnetically at the Free University of Amsterdam. That instrument is pretty old too.
What a dirty trick! Iran is following the NPT rules.
Unlike other signers of the NPT treaty, the US has sent Weapons Grade Uranium to Israel
in direct violation of both international and domestic laws.
So while right-wing commercial media tells us that Iran is a scary country lead by a nuke-obsessed madman, "left" wing media keeps us informed as to every trivial detail of Iran's "peaceful" nuclear program.
It's like the "left" is just there to reinforce the right-wing narrative regarding foreign powers by providing "naive" details that help justify the fear coming from the other media tycoons sitting on the other side of the same room.
